Business or industry as an organized effort aiming to gain profit provides either products and/or
services. Industries provide specific products and/or services that they have made marketable to the
public.

Basically, government institutions provide services to the public as it is its main duty and
responsibility as indicated in the constitution. These services may include education, social, and security
services, among others. Usually, the government is the largest service-providing institution in a
particular country.

Another form of services that an industry provides is food services. These food-servicing
industries include restaurants, e.g. Jollibee, Chowking, Buddy’s Pizza, Chito’s, Kamayan Sa Palaisdaan,
McDonald’s, Silangang Nayon, and the like. Banks and cooperatives also provide services in terms of
financial and accounting contexts. These services are known to be the ‘products’ being sold to the public
or target clients. These services may include various types such as deposits, withdrawal, and checking
procedures, among others.

But it has to be noted that some industries provide products as ‘products’. These products vary
depending on the needs of the public. Some product-based industries include but are not limited to the
following: beauty care (e.g. makeup, lipsticks), leisure and entertainment (e.g. radio, television,
cellphones), household needs (chairs, table, kitchenare, glassware), and sports (e.g. sports equipment).
These products are created to respond to daily human needs and wants.

Some of the examples show that industries may either provide services or products. As SHS
student now on your work immersion, you have to really understand and be aware of the nature of your
work immersion cooperating industry understanding whether it provides services or products. Knowing
this will surely help you in preparing yourselft to the expected things and competence that you have to
bring, do and perform in your work immersion.
