Set in Paris, France in 1880. A young middle-class woman, named Mathilde Loisel, dreams of a
lifestyle far beyond her reach. One day her husband Monsieur Loisel comes home with an invitation
to a very affluent party. Mathilde Loisel is worried for they were not wealthy and yet she wants to wear
nothing but the best. Her husband gives her money to buy a dress but she is not satisfied. Out of
desperation, she asks Madame Forestier to let her borrow a beautiful necklace. Mathilde had a grand
time at the ball, getting admiration and compliments from everyone there. However, once Mathilde
and her husband went home, they realize that they lost the necklace. After days of searching, they
decided to buy a replacement of the necklace that was worth more money than they can make. It took
them 10 years to pay it all off, however they had to give up everything they had and their rich and
fancy lifestyle. One day Mathilde meets Madame Forestier at the market. Madame Forestier was
shocked to see Mathilde wearing rags and not as beautiful and radiant as she once was. Mathilde
decides to tell her what really happened and all the pain and struggle she went through. Madame
Forestier told Mathilde a shocking truth that the necklace was a fake.
