1. SCOPE

These specifications define the performance requirements for a paint or powder coat system with adequate
appearance and durability for metal parts in exterior low or non visible areas.

WSK-M2P152-A1 For parts requiring light corrosion resistance, or functional requirements.

WSK-M2P152-A2 For parts requiring moderate corrosion resistance, or functional requirements.

WSK-M2P152-A3 For parts requiring severe corrosion resistance, or long-time functional requirements.

WSK-M2P152-A4 For parts requiring extra severe corrosion resistance, or extra long-time functional
requirements.

2. APPLICATION

These specifications were released originally to provide adequate corrosion resistance for exterior low level
visible parts. Four levels provide flexibility of application and are specified depending on use, position and
exposure resistance required.

3. REQUIREMENTS

3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESS

Suppliers must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality System Standard Q-101. A mutually
acceptable Control Plan as described therein is required for material/source approval. Appropriate
statistical tools must be used to analyze process/product data so that variation in the final product is
continuously reduced.

3.2 CONDITIONING

All parts shall be aged for 72 h at 23 +/- 2 C or 16 h at 43 +/- 2 C before testing for resistance
properties unless otherwise specified.

3.3 SYSTEM COMPONENTS

3.3.1 Substrate
As specified on the Engineering Drawing.

3.3.2 Cleaning

The surface to be coated must be free from oil or alkaline residues, fingerprints, rust, dirt,
moisture, and other foreign materials.

3.3.3 Coating Material

3.3.3.1 Pretreatment

All parts shall be zinc phosphated to WSK-M3P1-C requirements.

3.3.3.2 Coating System

Coating must be sufficient to meet all performance requirements of this

specification.

Durability is obtained by
a) Quality of materials used.
b) Variation in film thickness.

3.3.3.3 Cathodic Electrocoat

As specified on the Engineering Drawing

Ford Engineering approved materials.

3.3.3.4 Primer, (Where necessary to achieve specified appearance and/or

performance).

Ford Engineering approved materials.

3.3.3.5 Top Coat,(Where required to match body colour).

Ford Engineering approved materials.

3.3.3.6 Powder Coat

As specified on the Engineering Drawing

Ford Engineering approved materials.

Ford Engineering approved polyester powder coat only may be used on all
exterior visible and partially visible parts.

Epoxy powder coat may be used on completely exterior non-visible parts.

Polyurethane powders are not permitted.

3.6 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific requirements for material and/or manufactured parts shall be specified on the Engineering
drawing, Engineering parts specification and/or performance specifications. All critical areas with
respect to these properties shall be clearly designated on the Engineering drawing.

3.7 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY

All materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics to the material
upon which approval was originally granted.

Prior to making any change in the properties, composition, construction, color, processing or labeling
of the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not such changes affect the
material's ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing,
Toxicology and the affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changes and obtain the
written approval of the Materials Engineering activity. Test data, test samples and a new code
identification are to be submitted with the request.
Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply to the materials addressed by this
document. The restrictions are defined in Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1,
unless a different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineering document for the application.

4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS

This specification is intended to define the performance and/or properties of finished parts or systems of
combined materials. An Engineering Material Approved Source listing is not applicable for this specification.
Product Engineering materials referenced in this document and/or the affected engineering drawing which
require prior Engineering approval, are shown in the Engineering Material Approved Source List under the
specification cited.
