ASTM C31 or Standard Practice for Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the

Field, is a concrete test specimens can be made, cured, transported, and protected in
accordance with this practice's standardized requirements under field conditions. The strength
test results can be used if the specimens are made and standard cured in accordance with the
specification. After all on-site adjustments to the proportions of the mixture, including the
addition of mix water and admixtures, have been made, samples of the concrete that was used
to make the molded specimens will be taken. Making specimens from concrete with no
discernible slump or requiring specimens of other sizes or shapes cannot be accomplished using
this method. The specimens must be molded and cured in accordance with ASTM C31 when
strength is used as the basis for acceptance of concrete. Metal or plastic cylinder molds can be
used, as long as they are not absorbent, do not react with concrete, and keep their shape and
dimensions no matter what the conditions are. When water is poured into them, they cannot
leak. The curing process of the cylinders will give those in charge of the project guidelines for
how long it will take to remove the form and shoring and help them figure out how to protect
the concrete in the structure while it cures. You can look out for mistakes in the concrete's
mixing and pouring while you are making cylinders on the job site.
