Advertising

Advertising is a form of selling a product to a certain audience which

communication is intended to persuade an audience to purchase products, ideals
or services whether they want or need them. This makes us ask the following
question: is advertising a form of exploiting peoples desire to purchase a product,
or to inform them about the product? This essay will debate this topic.
Advertising increasingly invades public spaces, such as schools, which some
critics argue that this is a serious form of child exploitation. It deliberately targets
children and vulnerable people, who are less able to discriminate. Also,
unfortunately nowadays there are way too little forms of advertisement which
target informing the public about a topic or a product.
Moreover, this form of exploitation can lead to more serious matters for
example misinforming the public, making them want to purchase even more, but
the quality of the purchased item is not as promised by the commercial. It
exaggerates certain things and makes misleading claims. This can cause a lot of
unhappy customers and unwanted situations. Luckily, most on-line websites and
stores have returning policies and if a product is not as advertised, unsatisfying to
the customer or malfunctioned, it can be returned.
To conclude, from the arguments given above, I have come to the
realization that nowadays advertising is typically designed to exploit rather than
to inform.
