Το μάθημα αφορά συνοπτικά στις διάφορες προσεγγίσεις, κριτικές θεωρήσεις και

ερμηνευτικές μεθόδους που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν απο τους ιστορικούς για τα έργα της τέχνης
από την αρχαιότητα μέχρι σήμερα. Επίσης παρουσιάζονται οι επικρατέστερες θεωρίες
σχετικά με τη δημιουργική φαντασία των καλλιτεχνών, όπως τις διαμόρφωσαν σημαντικοί
στοχαστές. Εξετάζονται επιπλέον καλλιτέχνες, έργα και ιστορικές περίοδοι από τις απαρχές
της Δυτικής Τέχνης μέχρι και τον 20όν αιώνα.
