Corta:

Two years after their debut release and in the midst of an utter crisis Los Malinches return with
their second album, bringing us musical salvation. A kaleidoscope of retro-futuristic, frenetic,
hypnotic, moody & groovy Latin sounds awaits you.

Get ready for the ultimate eruption of South American Garage and Sicodélico!

Larga:
My first encounter with Los Malinches was back in 2018 when a good friend of mine gave me
their debut 45 ‘Nunca b/w Saeta’ as a birthday present. I was instantly blown away by that raw
piece of primitive South American garage beat and the more atmospheric and moody flip side.
The record was played loud the same night at our club and a plan was made! Half a year
passed by and February 2019 saw four friends from Murcia board a plane to Cologne to play
one single gig at the famous Sonic Ballroom. The rest is history! Los Malinches conquered the
place by storm, leaving all of us desperate and unable to survive without a regular fix of their
explosive live performances! And they did make their return the same year, as a headliner at
the Berlin Beat Invasion festival and with a German mini tour in the early weeks of 2020, still in
time before everything went down the drain! Half a year later and in a ‘new world’ turned
upside down, Los Malinches are finally back with their second LP, bringing us musical salvation!

I really embrace the whole album with each and every tune:

The opener ‘Bionicos’ transfers you musically into a retro-futuristic scene from precolumbian
times where divine aliens are landing their galactic vessels on top of the Aztec pyramids. Yes,
there is still hope for a better world in the year 2000!

‘Piel de Lince’, the title track depicts a girl’s coming off age story from her father’s perspective.
Love how the organ suddenly switches into ‘House of the Rising Sun’ mode.

‘Kama Sutra’ is a tough fuzz and Farfisa driven beast to groove along to. Dig that perfect
amount of cowbells!

‘Evocation’, a beautiful little ode to a lost love, also transcends the feel of a groovy summer’s
day, both, moody and relaxed at a time. If you ever met Alberto, Juanma, Pablo and Vicente in
person, you’d know that despite all the hard work and devotion for their music, these guys are
really chilled on a 24/7 basis. I so wish to hang out with them now!

In ‘Mentiras’ the friends explore a very own and very ‘Malinches style’ take on what could be a
medieval ballad, with multi vocals, an acoustic guitar and cymbals, creating a unique and
surprising sound, unheard before by the band - Enjoy!

With ‘Me Sento Loco’, originally by Los Yetis they’re back at Nueva Ola in a nutshell: boogaloo
rythms, organ grooves, screams and a characteristic Latin fuzz guitar - what a brilliant cover!

‘Abrir La Mente’ is an breezy uptempo tune, topped up with some frenetic conga action!

It is also the tune which reminds me the most of the first Malinches album.

‘Kadim’, moody greatness in South American style, tears in the eyes - ‘nuff said!

As another surprise ‘Rayo Molecular ’ awaits you with a jazzy rhythm section and hypnotically
recurring lyrics, awakening the shaman within you and taking you musically on a meshkalina-
drenched trip!

‘Sin Exito’, originally ‘No Exit’ by LA’s Grassroots, then covered by Lima’s very own Los York’s,
gets a Malinches treatment, which of course works perfectly well!

Azufre I Fuego is the ultimate eruption of Latin Garage-Psych, with a driving beat, a steaming
organ and Alberto’s clear voice reaching for higher spheres. A masterpiece!

Finally ‘Duda’, a cover song remembering Puerto Rican Rock’n’Roll heros Los X-5! Always a
great mover during their live performances, it now finally finds a release on vinyl!

I can only hope to see this amazing band again soon where they belong: on the stages of the
world, both, big and small!

And until then I strongly recommend you to listen to this magnificent piece of work.
