Problem Reinstatement

As  stated in the group powerpoint, the problem that uber is facing is that of license types

whereby uber operates in the same field without requiring drivers to acquire taxi driver license.

Honestly, we believe that Uber drivers shouldn’t have to get their taxi driver license. For one,

they are not driving a taxi; they are driving their own vehicles. When driving your own vehicle,

the only license required is your driver’s license. Another problem is that drivers have been

complaining about Uber misleading them about how much they would earn; this results in the

drivers not getting paid as much as they initially believed they would. Uber's reputation, in

regards to security and safety, is under scrutiny, because of all of the constant breaches and

bending of privacy laws. 

Alternative Course of Actions 

We agree with cameras being used in the car during a ride due to the fact that anything can

happen inside of the vehicle, so if something is reported, they can have footage for support.

Another alternative course suggested is that Uber drivers should have a glass separating the

driver and riders. We agree that having glass between the driver can provide many benefits,

especially safety benefits. Lastly we agree that uber should have a way for drivers to protect

themselves when faced with a dangerous passenger. Their current policy is against driver carry,

however, we suggest that Uber revises their driver protection policy and enable their drivers with

the ability to protect themselves if danger were to arise.

Recommended Course of Actions

For best practices, regarding the safety of customers and contractors, we have agreed that Uber

should take into consideration installing cameras into company provided vehicles. With Uber

providing company vehicles, this will reduce the liability of the drivers' vehicles being safe for

operation, depending on the condition of their personal vehicle–and  Uber can track their

vehicles at all times in case of an emergency.  Providing company vehicles with surveillance will

allow the drivers to feel safe and reduce the amount of injuries and violent crimes. Also, this will

potentially eliminate risks and violation of drivers and passengers. Eliminating the risk of safety

hazards will also build a better rapport for the company’s name and a better face when

competing with competitors. More practices Uber should take to ensure driver safety is by

adding a shield/ glass covering to the inside of vehicles. This will protect the driver from any

physical harm that could come from unruly passengers and dual protection from Covid-

19Coronavirus. Uber’s ‘Firearms Prohibition Policy’ prohibits riders and their guests from

carrying firearms during rides. Uber does this to “ensure that everyone has a safe and reliable

ride” This policy led to many drivers being unable to prevent harm upon themselves. Uber

should the respective adopt state’s laws with this policy, this can lead to more instances of driver

successfully thwarting attackers.
