Common Base Amplifier

Objectives:
 In this experiment you will:
 Verify through circuits measurements, the voltage gain and phase
shift of common base amplifier.
 Experimentally determine the input impedance of common base amplifier.
 Explore three common failures of common base amplifiers.

Equipment and materials:

 DC power supply
 Oscilloscope
 Digital multimeter
 Function signal generator
 Bread board
 NPN transistor
 Resistors
 Capacitors

Build the amplifier circuit of fig 1. Replace the 2.7 k ohm emitter resistor with
an Ohm resistor. Estimate the effect. Record your estimated voltages in
estimated column of the table provided here. Apply circuit power. Connect and
set the signal generator to supply 20mvp-p across RB. Measure and record the
listed voltage values in measured column.
C2 shorted
Turn off circuit power. Replace the emitter resistor with the correct 2.7 kohm
Resistor. Place the jumper wire to short the output capacitor C2. Estimate the
Effects of this on circuit parameters. Record your estimated values. Apply circuit
Power and input AC signal. Measured and record the values in the measured
Column.
C2 open
Turn off circuit power. Remove the jumper shorting C2. Disconnect one end of c2
From the transistor collector. Estimate the effect of an open c2 on the circuit
Parameters listed in the table. Record your estimated values. Apply circuit power
And input AC signal of 20mvp-p. Measured and record the values in the measured
Column.

Critical Analysis:
In this lab we studied the common base amplifier is good voltage gainer. The
output and input are almost equal. In Part B AC and DC was used and after using
that we came to know that behavior of output voltage changes due to coupling
capacitors.
