SEITON
Seiton usually translated into “systematic arrangement” or “set in order”
and summarized in the saying “ a place for everything and everything on its
place”. It means organizing and being ready. Sorting, it clearly distinguish needed
items from unneeded items and eliminate the latter. Set of order, it keep needed
items in the correct place to allow for easy and immediate retrieval. Shine, always
keep the workshop clean. Standardize, this is the condition we support when we
maintain the first three S’s (Sorting, set of orders and shine). And lastly sustain,
make a habit of maintaining established procedures. If we simply focus on putting
things away, we can lose sight of why we put things away, which is to be able to
retrieve them quickly when we need them. It also means determining where and
when items are needed and placing them in a way that promotes efficient work
flow. Seiton is important because it increases actual production time and raises
productivity. When tools and materials necessary for production in the workshop
are assembled and arranged correctly, preparation and machine-setting
operations can be done in a short time. The goal of Seiton is to arrange all
necessary items in order to prevent loss and waste of time looking and searching
for what is needed.
