Lesson Paper
a. Discussion
Presenting of PowerPoint presentation.

What is Globalization?
Globalization means the speedup of
movements and exchanges (of human beings,
goods, and services, capital, technologies or
cultural practices) all over the planet.

Please ready Mr. Tanaid.

According to WHO, globalization can be

defined as ” the increased interconnectedness
and interdependence of peoples and countries.
It is generally understood to include two inter-
related elements: the opening of international
borders to increasingly fast flows of goods, :Mr. Tanaid will read the slide.
services, finance, people and ideas; and the
changes in institutions and policies at national
and international levels that facilitate or
promote such flows.”

Thank you Mr. Tanaid. Globalization is used

to describe the increasing connectedness and
interdependence of world cultures and
economies.

Let’s proceed to the three types of it. Ms.

Fernando read the first types.

What are the three types of globalization?

1. Economic globalization.
New Era University
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
No. 9 Central Avenue, New Era, Quezon City

The focus of it is on the integration of

international financial markets and the
coordination of financial exchange. Free trade :Ms. Fernando will read the slide.
agreements, such the North American Free
Trade Agreement and the Trans-Pacific
Partnership are examples of economic
globalization. Multinational corporations,
which operate in two or more countries, play a
large role in economic globalization.

*Economic globalization involves a wide

variety of processes, opportunities, and
problems related to the spread of economic
activities among countries around the world.

*improves the efficiency of enterprises and

plays a great role in increasing the size of the
economy of every country. Economic
development improves living standard and
level of education of people. It also lays the
material basis for the development of
education.

Please read the next slide Ms. Faurillo.

2. Political globalization.
This type covers the national policies that
bring countries together politically,
economically and culturally. Organizations
such as NATO and the UN are part of the :Ms. Faurillo will read the slide.
political globalization effort.

*Political globalization is the act of a single

political system being spread across the world
and being adapted by many countries.
Specifically, political globalization as of now
refers to the spread of western democratic
thinking across the world.

*Through political globalization we can easily

contact and talk to other countries' leaders in

times of crisis or concern. We are able to

resolve issues, and help spread democracy
through the use of globalization, which has
helped lower boundaries and borders as a
result of war.

Ms. Pascua please read the third type.

3. Cultural globalization.
This aspect of globalization focuses in a large
part on the technological and societal factors
that are causing cultures to converge. These
include increased ease of communication, the
pervasiveness of social media and access to :Ms. Pascua will read the slide.
faster and better transportation.

* phenomenon by which the experience of

everyday life, as influenced by the diffusion of
commodities and ideas, reflects a
standardization of cultural expressions around
the world.
Does cultural globalization is important? What
do you think Ms. Calimag?
:Yes ma’am, because through it we can be
identified by our culture and country where
we from. For example, we Filipinos are
know for being hospitable, industrious and so
Yes, that’s right, Cultural identity provides on.
the global significance of local knowledge and
the sense of self, community and nation. In
terms of science, technology and economic
development, globalization reflects somewhat
the theory of convergence and hegemonic
control, but in deeper sense, it promotes
cultural identity.

Let’s move on to the next.

Cause and effect of Globalization

Please read Mr. Gamueda.

Causes of Globalization
New Era University
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
No. 9 Central Avenue, New Era, Quezon City

1. Improved Communications
The development of communication
technologies such as internet, email and
mobile phones have been vital to the growth of
globalisation because they help MNCs to :Mr. Gamueda will read the slide.
operate throughout the world.

Thank you Mr. Gamueda.

*The development of satellite TV channels
such as Sky and CNN have also provided
worldwide marketing avenues for the concept
and products of globalisation.

2. Improved Transport
- The development of refrigerated and
container transport, bulk shipping and
improved air transport has allowed the easy
mass movement of goods throughout the
world. This assists globalisation.

3. Free Trade Agreements

- MNCs and rich capitalist countries have
always promoted global free trade as a way of
increasing their own wealth and influence.

*International organisations such as the World

Trade Organisation and the IMF also promote
free trade.

Please read the 4th cause Ms. Arugay.

4. Global Banking
- Modern communication technologies allow
vast amounts of capital to flow freely and
instantly throughout the world.
:Ms. Arugay will read the slide.
*The equivalent of up to $US1.3 trillion is
traded each day through international stock
exchanges in cities such as New York, London
and Tokyo.

5. The Growth of MNCs

New Era University
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
No. 9 Central Avenue, New Era, Quezon City

- The rapid growth of big MNCs such as

Microsoft, McDonalds and Nike is a cause as
well as a consequence of globalisation.

*The investment of MNCs in farms, mines and

factories across the world is a major part of
globalisation.
*Globalisation allows MNCs to produce goods
and services and to sell products on a massive
scale throughout the world.

The Effects of Globalization

1. Changed Food Supply
- Food supply is no longer tied to the seasons.
We can buy food anywhere in the world at any
time of the year.

2. Division of Labour
- Because MNCs search for the cheapest
locations to manufacture and assemble
components, production processes may be
moved from developed to developing
countries where costs are lower.

Eead the 3rd effect Ms. Faurillo.

3. Less Job Security
- In the global economy jobs are becoming
more temporary and insecure.
*A survey of American workers showed that
people now hold 7 to 10 jobs over their :Ms. Faurillo will read the slide
working life.

4. Damage to the Environment

- More trade means more transport which uses
more fossil fuels and causes pollution.
*Climate change is a serious threat to our
future.

5. Cultural Impact
New Era University
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
No. 9 Central Avenue, New Era, Quezon City

-Websites such as YouTube connect people

across the planet. As the world becomes more
unified, diverse cultures are being ignored.

*MNCs can create a monoculture as they

remove local competition and thereby force
local firms to close

Ms. Pascya read the last one.

6. Increase in anti-Globalisation Protests
- There is a growing awareness of the negative :Ms. Pascua will read the slide.
impacts of globalisation.

*People have begun to realise that

globalisation can be challenged by
communities supporting each other in business
and society and through public protest and
political lobbying.

Is that clear class?

: yes ma’am!
Okay, lets move on to the next.
