The Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry leads translational research in the area of
intellectual disability health and wellbeing in Australia.
The Communications Officer will provide valuable input and support for 3DN’s internal and external strategic
and digital communications and act as a key central support role for projects requiring customised IT and
information management solutions.
The Strategy and Communications Officer reports to the Professor and has no direct reports.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

• Responsibility for the 3DN’s website and digital communications, ensuring accurate content and
supporting the implementation of updates and advancements with adherence to UNSW branding
guidelines.

• Plan and coordinate strategies and solutions to effectively communicate 3DN’s goals to a range of
stakeholders while ensuring the products are presented professionally at all times.

• Support the production of accurate, high level communications including presentations, annual reports,
strategic plans, media releases, project reports, e-newsletters and promotional material for translational
research products, including the development of easy read versions of key documentation where
appropriate.

• Create and update a suite of templates including promotional flyers, brochures and social media
graphics and associated materials for 3DNs fundraising, outreach and community awareness
initiatives and events, including easy read versions of key documentation where appropriate.

• Create and disseminate content for active social media campaigns including copy and creative
development, content pillars, cross platform content execution, and ensuring all outputs are on brand
and responding to enquiries. Monitor and report on digital communications and social media
engagement as required.
• Play a leading role in the development ofa webinar platform for 3DN and partner presentations and
training initiatives.

• Produce short promotional videos to promote 3DN’s research, campaigns and initiatives.

• Support projects and staff by applying relevant computational tools and techniques where appropriate
through direct engagements into project teams, consultations or informal conversations.

• Liaise with external vendors and stakeholders to ensure successful collaboration and integration of
technologies.

• Evaluate 3DN’s marketing and communications strategies and provide high level marketing and
communications advice.

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders in corporate, philanthropic,
media and research communities to further 3DNs public and fundraising profile.

• Arrange the planning and delivery of regular public forums ‘one-off’ events and initiatives and provide
the post-event debrief and conduct research to identify future opportunities.

• Perform general administrative duties as required.

• Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable
care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or
others.

• Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained
through any combination of education, training and experience.

• Experiences in the design, development, review and update of marketing and fundraising content
including websites, e-marketing and social media campaigns and hard-copy collateral.

• Previous experience in video production, uploading videos to websites (such as YouTube) and use of
CRM software (Salesforce) and broadcast email software would be highly desirable.

• Demonstrated proficiency using a range of web 2.0 technologies and visual and graphic design tools,
including, InDesign and Photoshop and Sharepoint, proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of
products.

• Strong understanding of Search Engine Optimisation principles and web analytics and demonstrated
experience in HTML for content curation and troubleshooting (advanced level desirable).

• Experience using Google Search Console would be highly desirable.

• An understanding of technical architecture / integration of systems and demonstrated experience in


the maintenance of image libraries, mobile applications, digital marketing strategies and online
promotional strategies.

• Excellent organisational, administration and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple
tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines, while maintaining excellent attention to detail.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences, including ability to produce
accessible, easy read content.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team to deliver high quality work.

• Demonstrated experience in using and maintaining complex technology systems and in


implementing effective web and information management solutions.

• Experience in implementing and evaluating marketing and communication strategies including the
production of marketing collateral, digital marketing campaigns and event management within budget.

• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with
relevant policies and guidelines.

• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and
safety training.
