ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to understand the performance of banks pre and
post mergers by analysing the behaviour of various recent mergers that have
taken place between certain Indian Banks. There exist quite a large number of
international and domestic banks who are involved in mergers and the soul
purpose of this process is to acquire benefits in terms of economies of scale. In
the year 2019, MS. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Indian Finance Minister announced
the merger of 10 Public Sector Banks into four organisations. The soul purpose
of these mergers were to give rise to the global competitiveness of the Indian
banks.
The paper compares financial performance of the merged bank with the help of
certain financial parameters including Gross & Net Profit Margin, ROCE, ROE,
and Debt-Equity Ratio. This study hence spots the overall impact of Merger and
Acquisition on the acquiring banks.
