DIFFERENT COMPANIES
Introduction
Customer Requirements are the specific needs of product features or characteristics with
expected quality and value that should be present in a product. The customer requirement is
done by keeping in mind the needs and requirements necessary to the customer. It is done
by conducting researches in the market about a specific product as to whether the customers
need the product or not.
Examples
Taking the example of an automobile industry, it is known that this industry is fast evolving.
The customers are expecting more from these industries. This industry has witnessed a
massive digital transformation. One of the main reasons is the introduction of IOT into the
automobiles. It may include predictive analytics about vehicle conditions which help to
reduce operating costs and improve vehicle safety, the ability to easily access information
about and activate features of a car via a mobile app, upgraded in-car infotainment
experiences etc. Therefore, customers prefer all these technologies at a reasonable price.
To know about the customer requirements in this industry, companies need to adopt
certain methods to gather data about the requirements and needs of the customers. There
are many sources for data gathering, such as GPS, sensors, cameras, ECUs, that help in
collecting data from vehicles. These real-time data insights are captured from these sources,
and then extracted and combined to provide necessary services or improve the vehicles in
the future. For example, the manufacturers use many data analytics tools to test a
combination of components to determine the most fuel-efficient and best-performing car
models. This helps the design process, as the manufacturer can select the most aerodynamic
models designed to be cost and fuel-efficient for the customer.
Taking an example of a smartphone industry, just like the automobile industry, people
demand a greater number of technologies incorporated into a smartphone. But while
incorporating more and more technologies, the price of the product increases. Therefore, the
product design must be done keeping in mind many aspects.
One of the best examples for a smartphone industry which focuses on customer’s needs is
Apple. One of the core disciplines of Apple is to focus on customer needs and requirements.
It keeps its customers above everything and therefore it is a very good service provider. Even
though the products from this company are not pocket friendly, people tend to buy these
products because of their need and requirement satisfying abilities.
Conclusion
Understanding the needs of the customers is one of the most important aspects in product
design. A product which satisfies the customer’s needs results in greater sales of that
particular product. Therefore, companies must focus on different steps to gather information
about the customer’s requirements. Using this information, they must think about
redesigning an existing product or design a new product which satisfies the requirements.
Therefore, knowing about the customer requirements can be a win-win situation where both
the customer requirements are satisfied and the companies can achieve great sales and
profits.
