4 Requirements
4.1 General
Specification values are minimum except where stated.

4.2 Specific
The physical and chemical properties of the individual components, the physical properties of liquid paints
before application and the dry film properties are defined in tables 1, 2 and 3.
The material shall meet the requirements of this specification when applied in accordance with 4.2.2.
Release tests shall be in accordance with Table B of AIMS 04-04-000 except those, which are not required
for the qualification.

4.2.1 Minimum Storage Life

The storage life of the product is specified in respective IPS.
Minimum Storage Life
Minimum required period of time commencing on the date of delivery and during which the product, in its
original packing and stored under specified conditions:
1. satisfies the requirements of the material specification,
2. is covered by the manufacturer's guarantee.

4.2.2 Sampling
The sampling of of paints and varnishes in liquid and paste form shall be done according to the technical
specification AIMS 04-04-000.

4.2.3 Test panel preparation

4.2.3.1 Test panels

The definition of the test specimens (material, dimension, pre-treatment) is given in AIMS 04-04-000.

Unless otherwise specified, a basic primer in accordance with AIMS 04-04-001 shall be applied on anodised
specimens.

Unless otherwise specified, the antislip paint shall be applied on specimens previously covered by the
external paint system in accordance with AIMS 04-04-013 or AIMS 04-04-031, except to the following tests
(adhesion, scratch resistance, flexibility, resistance to water and resistance to humidity) on which the antislip
paint shall be applied on both the above external paint system and the primer according to AIMS 04-04-013
or AIMS 04-04-031.

Furthermore, for the compatibility test with external paint systems, the antislip paint shall be applied on
specimens previously covered by the all other external paint system in accordance with AIMS 04-04-013 or
AIMS 04-04-031 whereas for the compatibility test with the primers, the antislip paint shall be applied on
specimens previously covered by all other primer according to AIMS 04-04-013 or AIMS 04-04-031.

For military applications the antislip paint shall be applied on specimens previously covered by the external
paint system in accordance with AIMS 04-04-036 or AIMS 04-04-060 or AIMS 04-04-061. For tests like
adhesion scratch resistance, resistance to water and resistance to humidity, antislip paint shall be applied on
top of both external paint system and primer according to AIMS 04-04-036 or AIMS 04-04-060 or AIMS 04-
04-061. Antislip paint has to be applied on both primer and external paint systems for compatibility tests.

4.2.3.2 Conditions for applications

Unless otherwise specified in IPS the following procedure shall be observed:
 The basic components shall be conditioned at ( 23  2 ) C / ( 50  10 ) % RH at least 16 h prior
mixing.
 The individual components shall be suitably agitated to ensure homogeneity.
 The components shall be carefully mixed, stirred and left to stand a suitable induction period as
defined by the manufacturer and in the IPS
 The application conditions and the drying times shall be in accordance with the respective IPS
 The antislip paint shall be applied within 12h to 72h of the application of the relevant top coat or on
the primer, depending on the tests to be performed
 After drying the film thickness shall be in the range of 40 to 150 µm according to the method of
application, as determined using ISO 2808. The film thickness shall be uniform.

Before the beginning of the tests a final drying time of 168h in a horizontal position at a temperature of
(23  2 ) C / ( 50  10 ) % RH shall be respected.

4.2.3.3 Treatment prior to exposure

Application of a scratch or a cross is required for several tests. These scratches should be cut through the
paint film down to base material. They shall be 1 mm wide.

4.2.3.4 Test media

The test media are defined in table A of AIMS 04-04-000.
