INTRODUCTION
As more demanding applications are becoming commonplace in the conveying industry, Rexnord
introduces the most innovative side-flexing chain for wider conveyors. The unique RexFlex™
chains combine the strength and product handling advantage of MatTop® chains with flexibility
and corner retention of TableTop® chains. Available in 6, 12, 15, 18, 24 and 30 in widths, the
RexFlex™ HP7956B is perfect for case handling applications as a substitute for roller, skate
wheel, powered roller, and line shaft conveyors. The 15 in wide RexFlex™ is also a good
substitute for dual-lane conveyors currently using 7-1/2 in wide chains. Available sprocket sizes
are 16 and 26 tooth.
The manual shows the proper design and installation recommendations for the RexFlex™ 7956B
chain. Chain dimensions and basic conveyor design considerations are included. Following the
suggestions outlined in this manual will ensure proper operation of the conveyor and will provide
the longest possible chain life.
Ordering Information:
• When ordering 7956B chain, the turn direction(s) must be known
• If turning in both directions, bearings will be provided on both sides of the chain

Typical Corner Wearstrip Corner Profile
• A lip on the outer corner wearstrip retains the chain in the corners
• The load in the turn is supported by the bearings on the outside edge of the chain
• Since 7956B utilizes bearings, PV (pressure velocity) limits do not have to be considered when running chain
pull calculations
• The bearings significantly reduces the turn factor when the chain goes around a corner, therefore the overall
chain tension is reduced and effectively increases the chain’s carrying capacity
• 7956B can be supplied with bearings on one side only if side-flexing occurs in one direction only, or with
bearings on both sides if side-flexing in both directions (see turn direction drawing below for ordering nomenclature)

7956B Chain Drawing
• Recommended wearstrip thickness is 0.75 in (19.05 mm) minimum. Thicker wearstrips can be used if desired
• All sharp edges of wearstrips, including corner tracks, should be chamfered to ensure smooth chain movement.
Recommended contact surface finish of wearstrips is 32 to 125 µ-in Ra (0.8 to 1.6 µ-m Ra) for best wear
performance
• Inside edges of straight and corner sections should contain a lead-in or chamfer for a smooth transition
• If center wearstrips are required due to loading, they can be staggered to distribute chain wear
Bearings
• Carbon steel bearings are standard. Stainless steel bearings are available on a made to order basis for wet or
high pressure applications
• Stainless steel bearings are recommended for application requiring high pressure wash down or conveyor
line lubrication

Since 7956B was designed as a chain, the design criteria that applies to standard TableTop® or MatTop® chain also
applies to RexFlex™. Criteria such as wearstrip selection, lubrication and catenary are the same as found in the
TableTop® Engineering Manual (8rxEM-en).
• Standard catenary (18 in to 24 in (450 mm to 600 mm) span) is strongly recommended (see conveyor photos).
• Minimum recommended straight section between the last corner and the drive shaft is 30 inches
• Minimum recommended straight section between the first corner and the idler shaft is 9 inches

• When installing sprockets, make sure all of the sprocket faces are positioned the same way on the shaft,
with all identification marks facing the same direction as shown. The timing notches in the teeth should
be lined up along the length of the shaft
Bearing attachments for the 7956B are the same for either the left or right hand sides.
Bearing attachments can be removed using a punch and hammer. They can be reinserted by hand.
End plugs for the 7956B are the same for either the left or right hand sides.
End plugs can be removed using a needle nose pliers to pinch the plug together. Plugs can be reinserted by hand.
