person that they do not want to let go, and they are willing to tell the world what they have found
in hope of never losing them. This what “Don’t Let Me Down” by the Beatles encapsulate. The
song shows how there is a distinction between love and lust, you must be willing to explain your
love language, and aspects of the song portray the theme of love.
In the beginning, “Don’t Let Me Down” brings am Eros type of love. From the way he is
singing very passionately about her. She makes him feel like he is “In the for the first time”. He
gets this feeling that the love they have is going to last. That as a whole just screams Eros, but
towards the end the song and his love start to give off a Ludus type of love. He starts to get
lustful, in a way, talking about how “she done him good”. In this part, it becomes unclear if he
loves her based on how she treats him or by how she has sex with him. You start to wonder if his
love is actually genuine or if he only has lustful intentions. Whether it is genuine or not, the song
shows how he cannot tell the difference between lust and love, Eros and Ludus type of loves.
I think the singer is looking for/wanting to receive words of affirmation. Since he feels
the love from his significant other is very strong and genuine, he wants to hear her say that she
will not let him down, hence the constant repetition of “don’t let me down”. He wants her to tell
him that she will not mistreat him, or mess up their relationship to where it has to come to an
end. He know that their relationship is going to be successful, but he wants to hear it from her
and for her to know as well. It could also be him giving her words of affirmations in a way
because in the song he said “Don’t you know it’s going to last”. He is assuring her that their
relationship is going to be long term because maybe they share this love language and she needs
to be reminded as mush as him. For the most part, it seems like he is the one asking for/wanting
to receive words of affirmation. Another love language I noticed he had was physical touch. He
made the comment that “she done him good”, and “nobody has ever really done him” the way
she has. Even though it is sexual it is still showing that love and physical bond. I feel like that
made him fall in love with her even more because he thinks highly of how she treats his body,
and makes him feel loved instead of used. With these love languages he is trying to make sure
his lover knows how he wants to be loved. By writing and singing this song he is also reassuring
I feel like the tempo and instrumental accommodates more to the theme of love in the
song. The tempo of the song is slow, but the instrumental is upbeat. The tempo and instrumental
are a representation of how love and being in love feels. It is slow and subtle, and then out of
nowhere it is fast and upbeat. There is all these different moments are happening fast, but they all
feel whimsical. You wish you could stay in these moments and times of bonding forever, but
From “Don’t Let Me Down” it portrays love as getting treated the way you want while
giving out that same energy to your partner. Love is the words your partner speaks, and the
things they do to back up those words. It is all of those moments that make you fall more and
more for your person. Love comes in many ways, shapes, and forms. Most people receive it from
