TASK NO.

2
A. Draw figures/illustrations for each of the following three-dimensional (3D) solids: two (2)
prisms, two (2) pyramids, one (1) cylinder, and one (1) cone. Be creative on your figures. You
may use another sheet of paper if necessary.

Two (2) Prisms:

Two (2) Pyramids:

One (1) Cylinder: One (1) Cone:

B. Create a word problem involving surface areas of each of the three-dimensional (3D) solids
(one problem of each solid: prism, cylinder, pyramid and cone). The word problems should
include the illustrations and solutions. Be creative on your figures. You may use another sheet of
paper if necessary.

1. A cylinder trash can is 30 inches high and has a bas radius of 7 inches. What is the outside
surface area of this trash can, including the top of the lid? Round your answer to the nearest
square inch.

Given: Solution:

Height = 30 in. SA = 2πr2 + 2πrh

Radius = 7 in. = 2π (7)2 + 2π (7) (30)

Answer: = 2π (49) + 2π (210) 30 in.

1626 in.2 is the
= 98π + 420π
surface area of the
trash can. = 518π

= 518 (3.14)
2. The Great Pyramid of Khufu, the largest of the pyramid in Giza, was built approximately
7 in.
= 1626.52 in 2
4,500 years ago. Today, the height of the pyramid is about 455 feet, which is about 30 feet
shorter than it was originally. If you were to walk completely around the base of the pyramid,
you would have gone about 3,024 feet. What is the surface area of the great pyramid today?
Given: Solution:
Height = 455 a. b.
Side = 3024 ÷ 4 756 ÷ 2
Perimeter = 3024
= 756 a2 + b2 = c2
Slant Height =? c. 4552 + 3782 = c2
SA = s2 + 2sl
Answer: 207,029 + 142,884 = c2
= 7562 + 2 (756) (591.53)
1,411,929.36 ft. is the √349,913 = √c2
= 571,536 + 2 (447,196.68)
surface area of the l = 591.53
great pyramid today. = 517,536 + 894,393.36
= 1,411,929.36

3. A scoop of strawberry of radius 6 inches is placed in a cone and with the height of 8 inches.
What is the total surface area of a cone?

Given:
Solution:
Radius = 6 in. b.
a.
Height = 8 in a2 + b2 = c2 TSA = πr2 + πrl 6 in

Slant Height =? 82 + 62 = slant2 = π (6)2 + π (6) (10)

8 in
64 + 36 = slant2 = π 36 + π 60
Answer:
√100 = √slant2 = 96π
301.44 is the total
surface of the cone Slant = 10 = 301.44
4. A company makes concrete bricks that are shaped like rectangular prisms. Each bricks has 7
inches length, 4 inches depth and 3 inches height. Find the surface are of the bricks.

Given:

Length = 7 in. Solution: b.

SA = 2 (wl + hl + hw)
a.
Width = 4 in. Front • back = 7 • 3 = 21 = 2 (28 + 21 + 12)

Height = 3 in Right • left = 4 • 3 = 12 = 2 (122)

Bottom • top = 7 • 4 = 28 = 244 in2
Answer:
244 in2 is the total
