“We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who
can do something about it.” Barack Obama, Former US President
We all are bearing the brunt of climate change and yet doing so little about it!
As part of the #POPIndiaTalks celebration, we at MRIS Charmwood would like to take up the
project and promote the idea of SUSTAINABLE FASHION in our youth.
Sustainable Fashion is an emerging global movement and is more than just creating an eco-
friendly fashion product. It addresses the large carbon footprint created by the global fashion
industry, air pollution, enormous water consumption and water pollution, worker health and
social impact on the millions working in this industry globally.
Re-selling of used fashion is catching up big time all over the world and this is a huge
sustainable opportunity in this sector that can save the environment. Sustainable fashion is not
just about buying fabric/accessories that are environment friendly, but also putting them into
socially responsible and right use after use. Sustainable fashion also does not require buying
anything new all the time. Wearing what you have, shopping secondhand and
swapping/borrowing from friends are other ways to engage in the sustainable fashion
movement that does not require the production or purchasing of anything new.
The first step for this movement to succeed is a change in mentality about looking down at
second hand clothing.
We all have some clothes in our closet that we may have worn only once or twice. We may not
fit into them anymore, we may not like them anymore, they probably were gifts and never our
first choice to begin with. And most definitely they are occupying space in the closet. Similar is
the case with bags and accessories.
MRIS CW with the support of its students wants to encourage others to embrace Sustainable
Fashion as a way of life. As part of our initiative we would like to put up a stall in
#POPIndiaTalks of ‘Pre Loved Possessions’. We urge your support in this endeavour and request
you to donate such possessions which you are most unlikely to use. However please ensure the
respect of the person who will be using the product donated by you. Please understand that
this initiative is different from regular old clothes collection drives. The target consumers come
from similar background as ours and the objective of the drive is to promote Sustainable
Fashion. Possessions donated need to be in good condition. Items that we are looking at include
clothes and accessories. Clothes should be well ironed and folded while other possessions need
to be neat and clean. Please send the possessions by 10 th

Proceeds collected from the Sustainable Fashion will be used to procure dry pulses and
contributed to our ‘Ek Mutthi Daan’ initiative which is run under the Dr O.P. Bhalla Foundation.
* Books in good conditions too can be given away
