It is a manual of integration and operation of ceye in which we will describe the different functions,
positions and procedures that are performed in this central, you must have an updated
administrative instrument with the different techniques and procedures of the central equipment
and sterilization aimed at nursing staff working in different areas of hospitalization, this manual has
a general objective which is to provide an updated working tool to the assistant director of nursing
in order to describe the different areas, functions of the ceye to manage the equipment that is
required for the daily care of patients.

The manual describes the drying area, where the instruments and equipment are washed,
disinfected and disinfected. The area of assembly, cutting and preparation of different material and
equipment, in this area the packaging of healing materials is carried out. Finally, it indicates the
sterilization area, where steam, gas and solution sterilizers are used to carry out the activities
depending on the characteristics of the materials.

The functions of the head of the sterilization department are described, such as complying with the
provisions, standards and procedures issued by the management and superior authorities,
supervising the fixed supplies of each department, controlling the distribution of consumables,
equipment and instruments requested, among other functions, since the objective is to plan,
organize, carry out and control the preparation of sterile material and equipment required for the
daily care of patients in a timely manner.

Some of the functions of the ceye operational area are to know and comply with the rules and
regulations corresponding to the ceye service, to distribute and resupply the materials and
equipment to different services, to report on the quality, damage, breakdown and loss of the
material and equipment for its replacement, among others.

Some of the procedures indicated in the manual are the following:

Washing of different healing materials and equipment: this procedure is to select the different
decoration materials and verify that the instruments match the corresponding list, and that the
material is received clean of organic residues and without sharp materials. It should be washed with
detergent soap and running water using a brush to wash the instruments.

The second procedure that comes in the manual is the disinfection of different materials and
equipment: it indicates that the material should be received decontaminated and sharps material,
in a polyethylene bag, with a list of the contents and that the labeling indicates that the material is
contaminated, if the material is not decontaminated, it should be immersed in a solution for 20
minutes.

The third procedure is the preparation of equipment with instruments: the integrity and cleanliness
requirements of the instruments must be checked, as well as the functional conditions, and it must
be verified that the wrapping materials have the adequate size, cleanliness and resistance, and that
they are permeable to steam.

The next procedure is the preparation and packaging of the equipment with instruments: it should
be sealed in a suitable way for its civilization, the sealing machine should be turned on, select the
sealing temperature, pass the indicated area of the wrapper through the sealing machine and write
down the date with the day of sterilization.
The next procedure is the surgical gown folding: for surgical gown folding, the gown should be folded
on the reverse side at the level of the armholes, making an inverted portfolio following the shoulder
line and knotting the side tapes, folding lengthwise towards the center on themselves in thirds,
folding transversely in thirds starting at the bottom upwards, finally taking the level of the armhole
as a reference point for handling. The folding of surgical linen continues by folding the split sheet,
the kidney sheet, the field compresses, the split compresses.

Another procedure is the procedure of integration of surgical linen bundles: which refers that after
folding the surgical linen according to the respective procedure, it will be able to form the linen
bundles, the basic equipment for the integration is that a kidney area folded in half should be placed
on the work table, then a split sheet, 6 split compresses, a foot sheet and 3 surgical gowns with their
respective sizes of friction should be placed. To close the lump, the edge of the distal sternum of the
kidney sheet should be brought to the center, making an outward fold, repeating the same with the
edge of the proximal end, and the ends of the sheet should be brought to the center of the lump.

The last procedure indicated is the sterilization of the material: the first one is the one indicated by
autoclave, the procedure for the steam autoclave is to verify the electric energy and steam pressure,
change the chart every 24 hours, load the basket of the autoclave chamber with the selected
material according to the indicated time, check that the bundles are separated one from the other
to allow the steam circulation and close the autoclave door, it also indicates the steam autoclave,
and then initiation with gas aerator.
