OBSERVE
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
The learners are now in their ninth-grade high school and they are obviously manageable since
they are expected to carry themselves in learning and understanding instructions. They are
receptive and they have the capacity to move and decide in taking action toward specific things
in their lives. They are in their fourteen to fifteen years, and it is the stage where infatuation and
different kinds of emotional rush are rampant. They are also active especially when the teacher
integrates ‘matters of the heart things into the teaching-learning process.
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior?
Their behavior is full of confidence, and it is normal because it is what is expected in
today’s generation. However loud, they are still manageable by reminding them of the
classroom rules and the advantage of being obedient and behaving in their own respective
groups. The kind of behavior they possess needs a strategy to capture and get them to listen
to you.
ANALYZE
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books,
students’ belongings, supplies, etc.)? describe these areas. Will it make a difference if these
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement? Does this help in
managing the class?
There is a seating arrangement done by the teacher. The basis of arrangement is in
alphabetical order, inserting male and female in between. This helps in managing the class
as the learners do not stay with their close circle of friends which could lead to a chaotic
and messy environment.
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the Resource Teacher do?
Describe the behavior strategies used.
If the teacher noticed someone who is off-task, she tries to approach by getting to the
student’s side and simply trying to re-instruct the student on what to do.
8. What does the Resource Teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors? (Behavior strategies)
Whenever the noise of the class arises, the teacher tries to raise her voice enough to fill
the whole class, as a sign to minimize their sound. If somebody is an attention-seeker, she
simply goes on with the discussion, shifting the focus on others which will make the
student realize what he/she is doing is not a go-to. Also, the teacher never forgets to
integrate the values of a Filipino worthy of appraisal and salutation.
REFLECT
1. Why do you need to enforce positive discipline?
Students are looking for this kind of discipline. In this world full of negative
constraints and issues, people are very sensitive and emotionally inclined which seems a
simple thing to people from generation x. As educators, we need skills to enforce positive
discipleship to our students not to protect them, but to suffice their emotional needs as
they are prone to depressive traits, which could degrade the quality of their life. However
sensitive they may be, still we need to adopt and create strategies to balance the
enforcement of both negative and positive discipline.
Activity 5.2 Identifying the Different Aspects of Classroom Management
OBSERVE
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT MATRIX
Aspects of Classroom Description Effect on the Learners
Management
1. Specific areas in the Sanitation area/triage area There is cleanliness and
classroom orderliness among learners.
4. Daily Routines Cleaners of the day schedule Students are aware of their
responsibilities.
5. Seating Arrangement Mixed boys and girls, one There is proper discipline
after another. and the right conduct of
behavior.
ANALYZE
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’ behavior?
The classroom routines affect the learners in a positive manner. Rules and guidance
in the classroom are indeed powerful to the teacher-student relationship. The
enforcement of these is easy but quite challenging when practically done. Rooted in
values, students put themselves into submission. They are responsible enough and are
willing to take a leap of action to abide by the rules.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom organization
and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
In designing classroom organization and routines, the teacher’s primary step is to
identify the goals and missions that need to be accomplished. And, one principle to
bear in mind is the SMART Goals where routines should be Specific, Measurable,
Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In
motivating the students? Why were they effective?
It is simply the enforcement of positive discipline. Students crave and look for
reassurance that they are valuable and seen in society. This proves how powerful
really words are in a man’s heart.
REFLECT
1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. in what grade year level do
you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level?
Why?
As I imagine myself organizing a classroom in the future, I could capture students in
their tenth grade under my leadership. I chose this level because my ideal
environment is to have learners that are already independent and wise-decision
makers so that I do not have to craft the basics in managing a class but I will be there
to support, guide, as well as manage them into becoming more matured and ready for
greater tasks as expected on their journey ahead. Moreover, it is my pleasure to serve
as their counselor on anything that matters under the sun. I believe I can relate to
them since I am born in a generation the same as theirs.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement at this level. Why would you choose
these rules?
The rules will be so simple and modified. I want them to show they’re being
Filipinos who are known to be creative, innovative, techy, updated, responsible
citizens, have principles that manifest good citizenry, leaders in all aspects, and most
of all, thinkers and doers. I chose these rules because, for me, there is nothing far
greater than these. In short, I want them to awaken the giants sleeping within, to
know their identity, and recognize their power to create an ideal society, where
people always work and think outside the box.
