INTRODUCTION
I will discuss occupational health and safety in the conventional milling workshop and
in this report I will state the background of conventional milling as well as the
dangers and risks that can occur in the workshop

A Milling Machine is one of the Cutting Tool Machines that are commonly used by
Industrial factories or companies that have certain production machines as a tool to
repair and develop Production Machines.

The following are examples of the function or use of milling machines in industrial
factories, among others:
 To level the surface of workpieces that are uneven due to Gas Cutting cuts or
due to unevenness from the physical shape of the workpieces, both metallic
and non-metallic.
 To make a key way groove on the shaft of the workpiece
 To form a Work Item into a specific Field Work Item.
 To make a square hole in the workpiece.
The way the Milling Machine works is the Milling Eye or End Mill rotates clockwise or
counterclockwise at a certain speed as needed and the Milling Machine has a Slide
that can move to the right, to the left, up and down.
OBJECTIFE
 To describe the risks that can arise in the conventional milling workshop
 To explain how to avoid or deal with risks in the conventional milling workshop
 To find issues in the conventional milling workshops
 To prevent injuries from developing as a result of existing hazards
 To be able to explain the methodologies used to analyse and evaluate the
risk of the identified hazards.

METHODOLOGY
Explain the method of identifying hazard at your selected workplace

 The way I went about identifying the risks I created was to visit the
workshop and look for risks that could affect lecturers and students if
not immediately addressed or avoided.

Identifying the Hazard:

Iron shavings not cleaned thoroughly

Oil spill has caused a slippery floor

Oil barrels are not stored in the proper place

The impact on hazards in the conventional milling workshop is :

Students may sustain injuries from iron pieces, such as finger injuries when
attempting to operate machinery, if they are not washed or cleaned.Next, Students
or lecturers may slip or fall as a result of a slippery floor, which is the second effect.
For instance, student may sprint or chase after their companions while stepping on a
greasy or slick floor, falling and hitting their heads on the ground. The last factor that
can contribute to an accident in the workshop is the possibility of oil spills and slick,
greasy flooring due to improperly stored oil or grease barrels. Additionally, unstored
oil and grease drums can make the workshop appear crowded and untidy, as well as
filthy and untidy.

RESULT
Select three most hazard potentially occurs at the workplace:

 Not keeping oil cans or grease cans in the right place.

 Hit by a heavy Work Object.
 Not cleaning the iron debris in the machine after finishing work on the
machine

Analyze all these pontential hazard using fault tree analysis:

RECOMMENDATION
Suggest the control measures to eliminate or raduce the three potential hazards:
 Iron shavings not cleaned thoroughly

Lecturers must monitor students to clean the machine area after using the
machine, lecturers can also take action against students if students do not
keep the machine clean or do not wash the machine they have used.

 Oil spill has caused a slippery floor

When leaving the workshop, students must ensure that the workshop
floor is clean and that there is no oil spill on the floor which can cause the floor
to be slippery which can cause students or lecturers to slip.

 Oil barrels are not stored in the proper place

Workshop supervisors should prepare a special store for oil barrels or grease
barrels so that oil does not spill onto the workshop floor and the workshop
looks neat and orderly

Suggest three promotional activities promote OSH at the work place

 Have regular meetings on workplace safety.
It never hurts to be over-prepared. Regular meetings to review safety rules and
discuss prevention keep workplace safety top of mind so that when something does
happen, everyone knows what to do right away.

As an employer, it’s your responsibility to protect your employees and provide a safe
workplace. Use these ten tips to get started, and partner with Concentra to help
make your workplace safe, healthy, and productive.

 Use labels and signs.

Labels and signs are a cheap and effective way to quickly communicate important
information. They’re usually simple and rely on pictures to detail hazards and proper
procedures. These tools are good reminders and warnings for even the most
experienced worker.

 Implement safety protocols from the start.

Workplace safety starts from day one, which means hiring qualified people who pay
attention to detail. A safe workplace starts with employees who follow safety
requirements and perform their jobs per the established procedures. Some
employers work with physical therapists to analyze the physical demands of each job
role. The findings are used to create functional job analyses and post-offer pre-
placement functional testing.

CONCLUSION
Healthier Employees – With effective safety training, protocols, and habits, workers
will require less days off from being sick or injured.

Social Responsibility – Having dedicated safety programs and procedures

demonstrates that your business is socially responsible. This can add significant
value to your brand, reputation, and overall image.

Increased Profits – Fewer sick days, increased productivity, motivated employees,

and more efficient systems can all be a result of good workplace safety.

A safe workplace is beneficial for the employees, employers, and the entire
business. From increasing productivity, to limiting workplace accidents, a workplace
safety program can do wonders for the overall success of a company. Contact our
