Name of
Teacher
Grade Level 10
Learning Area Mathematics Quarter 3rd Topic Linear and Circular
Permutations
Content Standard Demonstrate understanding of key concepts of combinatorics and
probability
Performance Standard Able to use precise counting technique and probability in
formulating conclusions and making decision
Most Essential Learning ⮚ Illustrate the permutations of objects M10SP-IIIa-1
Competency ⮚ Solve problems involving permutations M10SP-IIIb-1
III. PROCEDURE
1. A. Preparatory Activity
Prayer
Checking of Attendance
Review of the past lesson
1. B. Main Activity/Motivation
DIRECTION:
The teacher will give a different situation that deals with permutation. After
that, the learners will illustrate permutation thru the use of Tree Diagram and Systematic
Listing.
1. A close friend invited Anna to her birthday party. Anna has 3 new blouses
(stripes, with ruffles, long-sleeved and sleeveless) and 3 skirts (red, pink and black) in her
closet reserve for such occasions. Assuming that any skirt can be paired with any blouse, in
how many ways can Anna select her outfit? List the possibilities.
2. ANALYSIS
1. How did you arrive with the listing that you made?
2. In your opinion, do you think there is another way or easy way to get the
arrangement of such object? Why or why not?
3. How do you differentiate the systematic listing from using formula in
illustrating number of possible outcomes in a given situation?
3. ABSTRACTION
Fundamental Counting Principle is a rule used to count the total number possible
outcomes in a situation.
Examples:
1. There are 5 sweet delicacies that your mother prepared for fiesta and these were: Ubeng
Halaya, Buko Salad, Sweetened Macapuno, Leche Flan, and Buko Pandan. If you are
supposed to help your mother in preparing the dishes to be served to your visitors, then, in
how many possible ways can you arrange the 5 delicacies if three sweet delicacies are
served at a time?
Let: 5 = n,
3=r
Therefore, P( n,r) is the number of permutations of n objects taken r at a
time. Therefore, the answer will be 60 ways.
3. There is a JHS Math Camp in the Division of Quezon held at the oval of Emilio V. Quizon
National High School. Many students are participating from the different secondary
schools. The Math Campers are grouped into 10 groups with 8 members each. Each group
is asked to form a circle and they will be sitting on the ground. If the seating arrangement is
circular, in how many possible ways can the 8 members be seated?
Solution:
Obviously, this problem involves Circular Permutation. Thus, we are going to use the
formula:
P = (n -1)!
4. APPLICATION
Solve for what is being ask in each given question. Choose the letter of the best
answer.
1. Teachers at Emilio V. Quizon National High School are now preparing for
the validation of the Progressive face to face classes. They conducted a
meeting together with the stakeholder. They are 6 in total. In how many
ways can they be seated in a round table to conduct a meeting?
a. 24 ways b. 120 ways c. 720 ways d. 5040 ways
2. In a room, there are 10 chairs in a row. Considering the social distancing
to follow the minimum health standard, in how many ways can 5 students
be seated?
a. 30,240 ways c. 30, 420 ways
b. 151, 200 ways d. 151, 100 ways
3. What is P (8, 5)?
a. 56 b. 336 c. 1400 d. 6720
4. In how many possible ways can you arrange 9 books in a bookshelf if there
are only 5 available spaces.
a. 504 b. 3,024 c. 15, 120 d. 60,480
IV. EVALUATION
Analyze the given problem. Then solve for what is being asked in every problem
1. A dress-shop owner has 8 new dresses that she wants to display in the
window. If the display window has 5 mannequins, in how many ways can
she dress them up?
2. Cruz Family eat in a fine restaurant. If they are 5 in a family, in how many
ways can they be seated?
3. Suppose that you are 10 in a group, and there are only 4 available chair
to be occupied, in how many possible ways can you be seated in that
available chair?
V. CLOSING/ASSIGNMENT
1. In how many ways can a family with 10 members be seated in couch if only 8
persons can be seated?
