Student Learning Outcome 2

Synthesize evidence from research and theory to enhance delivery of quality health care

Research and nursing theory drive nursing practice. It is imperative that nurses, especially

DNP-prepared nurses, understand the theoretical foundations that support why we do what we

do. In general, nursing theory is applied to research, education, and practice. Thus, both research

and nursing theory have connected relationships. Understanding the historical perspective of

nursing theories can also add another layer of depth to its application in practice.

Currently, I plan to meet this student learning outcome at this stage of my scholarly

practice project by continuing to improve my research techniques and skills. In addition, I plan to

analyze the development and synthesis of major concepts in nursing. Some of these concepts can

be discussed in my DNP project. Once I have a comprehensive understanding of both research

and nursing theory, I will be able to synthesize evidence that will contribute to the delivery of

quality health care (EBP).
