    The Salat Prayer Ritual

    1. Niyyat and Tahrima


    To start the prayer, stand and say
    “Allahu Akbar”, which means
    “God is great”, whilst raising your
    hands to your ears.

    2. Qiyaam
    Place your right hand over your left on your
    chest or navel. Say the opening supplication.

    3. Fatiha
    Say the Fatiha from the Qur’an.

    4. Ruku
    Bow down, placing your palms on your
    knees and keep your back straight. Say the
    prayer words.

    5. Qauma
    Go back to an upright position
    with your arms by your sides.
    Say the prayer words.

    6. Sudjood
    Kneel with your face and hands to the ground.

    Kneel up and look down at your lap.

    10. Complete
    Say the taslim.
    Look over your right shoulder to the angel
    recording your good deeds.
