Brief description of wheat logistics

Wheat is purchased from various countries and ports like USA, Canada,
Russia, Argentina, Geramny etc
Multiple type of wheat (5-6 types) is purchased
Each plant need multiple of type of wheat
We mix different types of wheat to make flour (also called gristing)
Even single wheat type wheat shortage can stop production
Storage capacity of wheat is limited at each site mentioned in different tab
We neeed to optimize inventory level of wheat also - Working Capital
Wheat comes in ship and typical ship can carry about 45,000 MT of wheat
Different wheat type has different consumption in different site
One ship normally carries only one type of wheat only
We shall have 5 ports where ship can be docked
However, total factory locations are 11
We move the wheat to non-port factory by trucks
Wheat requirement in each plant is determined by capacity of plant and
demand from that plant
Typical shelf life of wheat is 3-4 months in storage
Vessel buying cycle is typical 3 months (contract to landing)
Typical sailing time between port to port in Nigeria is one day
SN Primary Objective -What we want to solve End game
1 Vessel demurage cost Reduce Cost
Right type of wheat at right port/plant with an Customer satisfaction
objective to supply flour to customer from requested Right wheat at right time
2 factory as per sales plan to avoid stock out
3 optmize wheat inventory - Working Capital Reduce Cost
Variables Type
1 Sales demand from 11 different factories fixed
2 Wheat grist fixed
3 Vessel size fixed
4 Vessel sailing date input
5 Vessel arrival date (NOR) at destination port output
6 Vessel berthing date at origin port output
7 sailing time Fixed

8 Vessel waiting time at desitnation port variable

9 Vessel sailing time fixed

11 wheat stock info
12 Inventory coverage info
13 Clear storage space at plant info
14 Wheat aging info
15 wheat transfer time (days) between port based plant to non-port plants fixed
Explaination
14 product type with different grist and different wheat type requirement
mixing ratio of different wheat type to make product
Wheat type and size of parcel
Vessel sailing date from origin/loading port

What is target berthing date at loading/origin port

Saling time is different from different countries

Vessel waiting time in Nigeria before berthing can happen

Vessel voyage time from load port to destination port
wheat offloading rate/day at destination port
what is stock level of different types of wheat in each plant
How many days of wheat inventory in hand
This is typically 70% of total storage space at plant
How old is wheat in plant
Wheat is being transferred to inland plants using trucks
additional info
can be slightly tweaked depending upon wheat availability
can be slightly tweaked depending upon wheat availability

This really depends upon congestion at destination port and

space available in Silo
