The Effects of Blue Light Blocking Glasses on Sleep Quality and Mood in Adolescents

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of blue light blocking glasses on sleep
quality and mood in adolescents.

Method: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 50 adolescents, aged between 12-17 years,
who were randomly assigned to either a blue light blocking glasses group or a control group. The blue
light blocking glasses group wore glasses that blocked blue light for 2 hours before bedtime each night
for 2 weeks, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Participants in both groups
completed pre- and post-intervention measures of sleep quality and mood using standardized self-
report measures.

Results: The results showed that the blue light blocking glasses group had significantly improved sleep
quality compared to the control group. Specifically, the blue light blocking glasses group reported better
sleep efficiency, shorter sleep onset latency, and longer total sleep time compared to the control group.
In addition, the blue light blocking glasses group also reported significantly better mood compared to
the control group. These findings suggest that blue light blocking glasses may be an effective
intervention for improving sleep quality and mood in adolescents.

Conclusion: The study provides evidence for the potential benefits of blue light blocking glasses in
improving sleep quality and mood in adolescents. Further research is needed to explore the long-term
effects of blue light blocking glasses and its potential as a preventive intervention for sleep-related
disorders in adolescents.
