The Effect of Mindfulness Meditation on Stress and Anxiety in College Students

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of mindfulness meditation on stress
and anxiety levels in college students.

Method: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 100 college students, aged between 18-25
years, who were randomly assigned to either a mindfulness meditation group or a control group. The
mindfulness meditation group received an 8-week mindfulness meditation intervention, while the
control group did not receive any intervention. Participants in both groups completed pre- and post-
intervention measures of stress and anxiety using standardized self-report measures.

Results: The results showed that the mindfulness meditation group had significantly lower levels of
stress and anxiety compared to the control group. Specifically, the mindfulness meditation group
reported lower levels of overall stress, perceived stress, and symptoms of anxiety compared to the
control group. These findings suggest that mindfulness meditation may be an effective intervention for
reducing stress and anxiety levels in college students.

Conclusion: The study provides evidence for the potential benefits of mindfulness meditation in
reducing stress and anxiety levels in college students. Further research is needed to explore the long-
term effects of mindfulness meditation and its potential as a preventive intervention for stress-related
disorders.
