What I learn and remember

1. Tension occurs when the plates are pulled apart causing either an elongation or a
breakage in the crust.
2. The Earth’s surface is composed of tectonic plates that are constantly moving.
As the plates move relative to one another, they experience different types of
forces. One kind of force is referred to as tension.
3. Tension occurs when the plates are pulled apart causing either an elongation or a
breakage in the crust. Tension forces can cause volcanic islands or mid-oceanic ridges to
form.
Another kind of force is referred to as compression
4. Endogenic processes in geology are a function of a body’s internal geodynamic
activity. They comprise volcanic, tectonic, and isostatic processes, which shaped the
surfaces of all terrestrial planets, the Moon, and basically all other Solar System bodies
with solid surfaces that have been observed in some detail.
5. The study of endogenic processes and their resulting landforms and landscapes puts
important constraints on the internal evolution and the surface history of a geologic body.
6. Endogenic processes have been responsible for shaping the earth’s relief and the
formation of many of the most important mineral resources.
7. The endogenous processes are caused by forces from within or in the interior of the Earth.
The driving force is the thermal energy of the mantle and the crust.
8. Compression occurs when the plates are pushed toward each other causing them to crash.
Compression forces can cause mountains to form or earthquakes to occur depending on
how the Earth’s crust reacts to the force.
9. Faulting happens when the Earth’s crust completely breaks and slides past
each other.
10. A bend upward results in an anticline and a bend downward results in a syncline.
However, the exact behavior of the material is dependent upon the type of material itself.
