PEN DRIVES:
 Pen drives(Memory sticks) are small portable devices
that make use of solid-state technology.

 They connect the computer through USB Port.

 They can be used as a small backup devices for music or


photo files.
Uses of Pen drives:
1. Trans porting files between computers or using as a
backing store.
2. Used as a security device to prevent software piracy.

Advantages of Pen drives:


1. Very Compact and portable media.
2. Very robust.
3. They are not affected by magnetic fields.

Disadvantages of Pen drives:


1. Cannot write protect data/files by making it ‘read-only’.
2. Easy to lose.(due to small size)
3. The user need to be very careful when removing a memory
stick from computer -incorrect removal will corrupt the
data on the pen drive.
A small, flat flash drive used especially in digital cameras and mobile
phones.
 The cards come in various memory sizes.
There are many available memory card formats, for example:
 SD-Cards(Secure digital card):
Used in Cameras.
 XD-Cards(extreme digital card):
Used in portable devices such as digital camera, audio
players, smart phones and tablet.
 CFast Card(Compact fast card).
Used as removable memory for higher end digital
photo and video cameras.
Uses of Memory cards:
1. Storing photos on digital cameras.
2. Used as mobile phone memory cards.
3. Used in MP3 players to store music files.
Advantages of Memory cards:
1. Very compact.
2. Very durable.(as having no moving parts)
3. They can hold large amounts of data.
4. Digital devices are able to read and write to memory cards
,allowing the user to transfer large collections of
information.
Disadvantages of Memory cards:
1. Expensive compared to hard disk drives.
2. Have lower capacity than hard disks.
3. Memory cards specifically micro SD card are smallest storage
devices so can be easily lost.
 In recent times ,both CD and DVD are becoming
obsolete.(i.e out of date).
 Many computer systems now come only with USB
connectors and no internal DVD or CD drive.

 Many Televisions are now set up as smart televisions, it


means that we can stream movies and programmes on
demand without any DVD or Blu-ray players.
