Pen drives and memory cards are small portable storage devices with advantages of being compact, durable, and able to transfer large files between devices. However, they also have disadvantages like being easy to lose, expensive per gigabyte compared to hard drives, and having lower storage capacity overall. The future of storage is moving away from discs like CDs and DVDs, as more systems are being sold without disc drives and content is increasingly streamed directly to televisions and other devices.

PEN DRIVES: Pen drives(Memory sticks) are small portable devices that make use of solid-state technology.
They connect the computer through USB Port.
They can be used as a small backup devices for music or
photo files. Uses of Pen drives: 1. Trans porting files between computers or using as a backing store. 2. Used as a security device to prevent software piracy.
Advantages of Pen drives:
1. Very Compact and portable media. 2. Very robust. 3. They are not affected by magnetic fields.
Disadvantages of Pen drives:
1. Cannot write protect data/files by making it ‘read-only’. 2. Easy to lose.(due to small size) 3. The user need to be very careful when removing a memory stick from computer -incorrect removal will corrupt the data on the pen drive. A small, flat flash drive used especially in digital cameras and mobile phones. The cards come in various memory sizes. There are many available memory card formats, for example: SD-Cards(Secure digital card): Used in Cameras. XD-Cards(extreme digital card): Used in portable devices such as digital camera, audio players, smart phones and tablet. CFast Card(Compact fast card). Used as removable memory for higher end digital photo and video cameras. Uses of Memory cards: 1. Storing photos on digital cameras. 2. Used as mobile phone memory cards. 3. Used in MP3 players to store music files. Advantages of Memory cards: 1. Very compact. 2. Very durable.(as having no moving parts) 3. They can hold large amounts of data. 4. Digital devices are able to read and write to memory cards ,allowing the user to transfer large collections of information. Disadvantages of Memory cards: 1. Expensive compared to hard disk drives. 2. Have lower capacity than hard disks. 3. Memory cards specifically micro SD card are smallest storage devices so can be easily lost. In recent times ,both CD and DVD are becoming obsolete.(i.e out of date). Many computer systems now come only with USB connectors and no internal DVD or CD drive.
Many Televisions are now set up as smart televisions, it
means that we can stream movies and programmes on demand without any DVD or Blu-ray players. https://quizizz.com/admin/quiz/63e74037a9265e001d ffc29d/storage-devices
