EFFECTS OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT ON STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION

CHAPTER I

ABSTRACT

Every Filipino knows that parental involvement in school activities is one of their
obligations whenever their child is enrolled. The parents become compulsory members
of the Parents Teachers Association, and as part of it, parents are obliged to volunteer
themselves in cleaning the school perimeter especially during Brigada Eskwela, and
some other special school activities. With this, it has been found out through different
studies that the more the parents become involved in the school, the more the students
become successful in their academic performances, self-esteem and motivation. They
become active in their class participation whenever there are discussions, they listen to
their teachers during class hours, and they are inspired and motivated to come to their
classes every day. Maybe because they are so proud knowing that their parents are so
involved in school activities. To strengthen these parents and school cooperation, the
government-mandated through the Department of Education, that No Child be Left
Behind. The teachers are encouraged to fill in whatever gap the child in his/ her
academic performances through intervention such as remediation, home visitation and
so forth for those who are slow learners so that learners are motivated to finish their
academic pursuit. Slow learner students are present in all corners of this world and this
cannot be denied, but this has been minimized or improved when their parents involve
themselves in school activities because they are motivated, and so with the teachers’
commitment to helping the students, slow learners, for them to pass their academic
studies with all the academic intervention. This changes the entire outlook of the
student’s academic performances, self-esteem and motivation.
