N o man is an island,

E ntire of itself,

E very man is a piece of the continent,

A part of the main.

I f a clod be washed away by the sea,

E urope is the less.

A s well as if a promontory were.

A s well as if a manor of thy friend’s

O r of thine own were:

A ny man’s death diminishes me,

B ecause I am involved in mankind,

A nd therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;

I t tolls for thee.
