PRO G RAM M E O V ERV I EW :

Early child development (ECD) is an “umbrella term” or a general classification that refers to the
processes by which children from birth to seven years of age grow and flourish socially, physically,
mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and morally.

The PHI LI PPI 2000 FEEDI NG PRO G RAM M E is an initiative developed by young
individuals who come from different walks of life with a common interest of community development
and formed a task team to facilitate their mission under in partnership with White Squares. The
programme’s mission is to promote, provide and support quality, sustainable and holistic early
childhood development (ECD) for children from 2- 7 years in the Cape Town Township Communities
focusing mainly in Philippi, by providing access to quality training in ECD for practitioners, caregivers;
by providing access to a range of resources for NGOs in the (ECD) sector and by ensuring children’s
nutritional needs are met.

This proposal seeks a financial intervention of R1 0 373.54 to ensure that the children in the Philippi
townships and informal settlements access nutritional meals monthly, for one year. Which comes in
various forms from maize meal to vegetables, nutritious, vitamin-enriched meals that are also widely
recommended in South Africa as a solution for malnourishment too.

Financial Intervention Motivation:

The programme’s task team held a discussion/presentation of the Philippi 2000 programme online via
Zoom Meetings App on Monday the 5th of September 2022 during the spirit of Heritage, with the
intention of gaining support from prospect partners, answering any queries or interests and due to
the non-availability of people most of the invites did not RSVP or attend the meeting both public and
corporate. The discussion/presentation’s agenda included but was not limited to; the sustainability of
this noble programme even during the difficult times. After the discussion the task team concluded
that the best method to be utilised to facilitate the programme successfully with little support from
third parties was to create the programme’s very own source of income to fund the necessary
provisions.

The task team resolved that the selling of bread to local restaurants, shops, garages & food stalls.
Fortunately, a donor agreed to assist and contribute towards the programme with the daily
temporary use of compliant Bakery Facilities.
Moved by the level of dedication and philanthropy of the task team more than 45 food outlets agreed
to purchase loaves of bread upon availability on a regular basis due to its affordability & after a tasting
the samples at a low-cost price of R9.99. Indicating a positive start. The programme will generate
sales on its first delivery with a target of 4 deliveries per week per outlet. Estimating a fundraising
target of R16 320.00 on the first month and will increase gradually which will be positively and
effectively used for the intended beneficiaries.
