8. 2 identical metal solid right pyramids with a square base of side X cm is melted and recast into
75 identical smaller solid right pyramids with height 8 cm and a square base of side x cm.
(a) It is given that the base area of the larger pyramid is 16 times of the base area of the
smaller pyramid. Find
(i) X : x.
(ii) the height of the larger pyramid.
(b) Peter claimed that the smaller pyramid and the larger pyramid are similar solids. Do you
agree? Explain your answer.

9. Let g( x )=x −x −11 x +c , where c is a constant. When g( x) is divided by x + 1, the
remainder is 12.

11. In figure 3, BC and BD are tangents to the circle at A and E respectively. O is the centre of the

12. After a hot-air balloon has crashed in a forest, the Fire Service Department carries out a rescue
operation. As shown in Figure 4, the searching region is a triangle XYZ, where XY =12 km
and XZ=8 km . The compass bearing of Z from X is N22W and Y is due west of X.

(b) Assume that the balloon has crashed at the position Q. It is given that the compass
bearings of Q from X and Y are N32W and N54E respectively. Two fire service teams
are ordered to reach Q from X and Y at the speeds of 20 km/h and 25 km/h respectively.
Which team (team from X or team from Y) will arrive at the position of the balloon
earlier? Explain your answer.

13. In Figure 5(a), ABCD is a paper card. The diagonals AC and BD intersect at E and they are
perpendicular to each other. It is given that AB = AD = 7 cm, CB = CD = 5 cm and AC = 8 cm.
