What are transition metals ?
Transition metals are the d-block elements and have incompletely filled d-orbitals and they have d1 to d9
electrons d10 metals like Zn, Cd, and Hg, have completely filled d-orbitals but are also considered as transition metals
because they have similar properties of transition metals. When these transition metal ions reacts with a species,
organic or inorganic, they are capable of donating a pair of electrons, and a coordinate bond is formed between the
metal ion and the electron accepting species.
The resulting compound is called a transition metal complexes coordination complexes are mainly made of transition The

in our everyday life and also in the environment.
Depending on their structures they are useful as important drugs,
catalysts, sensors, etc.
Life without dyes can’t be imagined as they become an unavoidable tool for a wide range of industries
like dyes, plastics, textiles, food processing and biotechnology industries.

• Benzimidazole is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound. It is an important pharmacophore and a
privileged structure used in medicinal chemistry and shows various biological activities.
• These ligands show chemotherapeutic importance [4] pharmaceutical or biological interest such as
antiulcer, anticancer agents antibacterial, antifungal, antitubercular etc.
Aminobenzimidazole (ABI) has been employed as a corrosion inhibitor for copper, zinc, steel, and
brass.
Using molecular dynamic simulation and quantum chemistry calculations inhibition corrosion of
(ABI) as corrosion inhibitors in (acid or base) media were examined.
The Cu(II) complex has higher activity on fungi. The investigation of biological activity of the azo
dye arises from the -OH group which has an important role in the antimicrobial activity. Upon
complexation, the positive charge of the metal ion is partially shared with the donor atoms of the ligand due
to the electron delocalization over the whole chelating ring. Thus, increased activity is observed leading to
the increase in the lipophilic character of the metal atom.
AIM OF THE PROPOSAL

➢ To synthesize copper(II) complex with Benzimidazolyl azo catechol as an heterocyclic
