Abnormal psychology:

Abnormal psychology focuses on the patterns of emotion, thought, and behavior that can be

signs of a mental health condition. Rather than the distinction between normal and abnormal,

psychologists in this field focus on the level of distress that behaviors, thoughts, or emotions

might cause.

If a behavior is creating problems in a person's life or is disruptive to other people, then this

would be an "abnormal" behavior. In such cases, the behavior may require some type of mental

health intervention.

For example:

There are many examples of abnormal psychology some of these are listed below:

 Mood disorders.

 Schizophrenia.

 Eating disorders

There are also 4 d’s which describes abnormal psychology. These all disorders of abnormal

psychology fall on these 4d’s:

 Deviance

 Distress

 Dysfunction

 Danger

Examples of abnormal psychology:

Mood disorder:

If you have a mood disorder, your general emotional state or mood is distorted or

inconsistent with your circumstances and interferes with your ability to function.

Deviance:

 You may be extremely sad, empty or irritable (depressed), or you may have periods of

depression alternating with being excessively happy (mania). It disturbs your daily routine

thus disturbs the social norms.
