EDITORIAL
Big question…what is a ghost? The answer…it’s, well, a whole bunch of things, and some more 
credible  than  others.  Maybe  it’s  a  ‘photograph’  embedded  in  the  atmosphere  or  a  particular 
location or perhaps an impression relating to a time? Maybe a ghost has a measure of independ‐
ence or perhaps they need the interaction of human beings to manifest in the first place? A bit 
like the Zen conundrum, ‘if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it make a sound’? 
Do  ghosts  appear  of  their  own  volition  whether  or  not  anyone  is  there  to  witness  them?  The 
truth is that ‘something’ of us survives death, but just how this happens is wide open to debate.

Edged  Sword.”  His  wife  played  the  key‐

drums and the previously‐mentioned Satan 
worshiper,  played  bass.  I  watched  spell‐
bound as the rock‐and‐roll preacher walked 
back and forth across the stage, while jam‐
ming on a sky‐blue electric guitar slung low 
off his shoulder. The church I grew in prac‐
ticed traditional Baptist values, so I’d never 
heard  “The  Old  Rugged  Cross”  played 
southern rock style, but I liked it. Then, as if 
God  had  told  the  band  my  favorite  song, 
they faded into “Amazing Grace.”  
 
The heavenly melody shook me to the core, 
for it had been mine and my father’s favor‐
ite  gospel  hymn.  I  covered  my  face  with 
trembling hands. As the pastor’s wife sang, 
a river of tears flowed down my cheeks. At 
that  moment  all  hate  left  my  heart.  But 
demons  lurk  everywhere...even  in  a  God‐
filled  church.  As  I  sat  enthralled  in  tearful 
memories  my  nape  hairs  danced  on  an  icy 
breeze.  My  clothes  became  uncomfortable 
and  my  skin  felt  as  if  it  was  crawling  with 
spiders.  All  while  invisible  imps  were  prod‐
ding  and  pinching  and  screeching  whis‐
pered  blasphemy  in  my  ears.  Covering 
them,  I  begged  God  to  give  me  peace.  He 
didn’t though.  
 
Unable  to  take  anymore,  I  busted  through 
the swinging doors and out into the church 
yard.  I  paced  until  the  voices  quieted.  As  I 
re‐entered  the  foyer  I  peeked  through  the

shaken,'  Mrs  Harris  said.  'No  matter  where  she  moved  the  doll  to  in  her 
home,  the  nightmares  persisted.  She  apparently  sought  the  help  of  a  local 
priest  but  two  visits  later  and  there  was  no  change.  'In  September  she  be‐
came  quite  ill  with  a  fever  and  began  suffering  hallucinations.  'When  she 
recovered, she saw no other option but to get rid of the doll as she was con‐
vinced  it  was  at  the  centre  of  all  that  had  been  happening.  'I  think  she

go  to  her  home  to  conduct  experiments  as  we  usually  would,  but  instead

The team, along with members of Haunted Dolls’ social media groups, have 
been trying to put together a clearer picture of the spectre inhabiting Peggy. 
It is thought she is possessed by the spirit of a woman born in 1946 in Lon‐
don’s  Holland  Park  who  died  of  a  chest‐related  condition  ‐  possibly  an 
asthma attack – and strongly dislikes clowns. Four different psychic mediums 
have ‘read’ Peggy, all invariably picking up that she is restless, frustrated and 
was persecuted in life. 'We have been told she can affect people’s dreams,' 
Mrs Harris said. 'She recently visited a lady in her dreams, warning her about 
one  of  her  cats.  'The  next  morning,  the  lady  found  her  cat  very  ill  and  he 
sadly  died  that  day.'  There  is  still  a  shroud  of  mystery  surrounding  Peggy’s 
religion, according to Mrs Harris. She appears to have an aversion to a cruci‐
fix necklace she was previously made to wear, suggesting she is not a Chris‐
tian.  'A  lot  of  people,  including  two  mediums,  have  said  they  feel  she  has 
links  to  the  Holocaust  and  was  possibly  Jewish,'  said  Mrs  Harris.  'We  have 
conducted automatic writing sessions with her in which the words "star" and 
the name "David" came up, so there is possibly a link there.' It was during the 
automatic writing session – a ritual whereby a psychic will communicate with 
a spirit, producing any messages they have without consciously writing – that 
an cryptic instruction was passed on to a member of the Haunted Dolls com‐
munity. The woman in question, a developing medium known as Lindy, had 
experienced paranormal activity related to Peggy before when her Facebook 
page  kept  posting  comments  about  the  doll  over  and  over  again.  'When  I 
commented my thoughts and feelings [about Peggy] all my comments were 
duplicated – no one else’s, just mine,' she said. 'I tried commenting on other 
threads  and  nothing  happened,  but  I  soon  as  I  went  back  to  that  one  the 
same thing happened. My dog started barking and my face became very hot 
and flushed. I felt like I wasn’t alone. 'I ended up apologising to Peggy as I felt 
maybe  she  disproved  of  us  chatting  about  her  and  my  symptoms  stopped.' 
Three  days  later,  another  Peggy  video  inspired  Lindy  to  have  an  overdue 
conversation with her daughter about how they were to deal with her mental 
health  issues.  'My  daughter  has  been  unwell  for  months  and  things  were 
strained and stressful,' she said. 'Late that morning, I found myself having a 
much needed heart‐to‐heart with her. 'All the things I had wanted to say for 
months were just flowing from my mouth. 'I’ve found it very difficult commu‐
nicating in such a way with her due to her illness. I felt that Peggy had helped

At  various  times  growing  up,  I  would  get 

advice from adults. I was told things like, “A 
good  way  to  determine  if  a  girl  is  right  for 
you is if you take her to McDonald’s on the 
first  date.  And  if  she  agrees  to  a  second 
date,  she’s  probably  a  keeper.”  Or,  one 
time I was told that, “The only thing a per‐
son has to do to become rich was to work a 
half a day each day. You just had to decide 
which  twelve  hours?”  But  maybe  the  most 
pertinent  one  for  me  was  when  I  was  told 
to, “Never discuss religion and politics with 
family  and  friends,  especially  at  a  holiday 
dinner  table.”  Those  kinds  of  questions 
were seen as too personal to ask in such a 
setting; or even at all. 
 
Maybe it was because I was from a Roman‐
Catholic  based  family  where  drinking  alco‐
hol  was  prevalent  at  holiday  events  which 
led to an array of family disputes—incidents 
which  led  to  the  formation  of  the  rule.  Or 
maybe, as I would later come to learn, that 
it  was  because  Roman  Catholics  were  pro‐
grammed  by  their  religion  along  certain, 
political,  social  and  religious  lines  that 
seems to clash with a wide variety of other 
philosophies  (the  alcohol  making  them 
worse)?  Maybe  it  was  a  combination  of 
both? Whatever the case, I witnessed some 
of  them.  They  were  never  violent  but  yet 
sometimes  emotionally  charged  to  the 
point  of  yelling  which  was  more  common 
on my Father’s side with six kids (my uncles 
and  aunt).  They  were  dramatic  enough, 
though,  that  I  always  tried  my  best  to  ad‐

Yet another absolute classic of the Zombie genre arrives (at long last) on DVD. This film (which is based on real events and real 
people) is about ‘genuine’ zombies, i.e. the ones created through magic and witchcraft as opposed to the hordes of walking dead 
produced as the result of a virus or infection. It is also has the added bonus of being directed by Wes Cavan and is absolutely typi‐
cal of the kind of superior horror film created by a man who is a recognised master of his craft. As to the story, well it takes place 
in the traditional home of the Zombie, Haiti, when a scientist (played by Bill Pullman) is sent by a pharmaceutical company to re‐
search the background of a man who had died but apparently returned to life. This involves a powerful Voodoo drug that could 
have lucrative properties as a powerful anaesthetic. 
 
However the researcher falls foul of the local commander of the Tonton Macoute (the notorious and rightly dreaded Haitian secret police) played to 
great effect by Zakes Mokae and is arrested. After being released the scientist arranges with a local witchdoctor to purchase a sample of the drug to 
take back, but once again runs foul of the Tonton Macoute and this time is tortured. 
 
The commander is then revealed to be a feared ‘bokor’ (an evil voodoo practitioner) who uses his black magic against the scientist and the local doc‐
tor (played by Cathy Tyson) who is helping him. The scientist is framed for a gruesome murder and flees Haiti, but returns only to be ‘zombified’. He 
eventually escapes the grave where he has been placed and has his revenge on the Tonton Macoute commander in a gut‐churning spectacular finale 
where he sends the commander’s soul to Hell. Great lip smacking stuff and well worth a watch.

are two ways of compiling a good book on the strange and profound subject of the paranormal. The first is spending countless years and painstakingly re‐
searching the phenomena, monitoring scientific documents on the subject along with testing hypothesis. The other is simply to write about your experiences 
with this phenomena, being honest, telling it how it is and not throwing in too many non‐scientific theories, folk lore and myth. This is exactly what the au‐
thors have done and more... Coming from someone who has spent 32 years in the investigation and research of paranormal occurrences you quickly become 
aware as to how rare poltergeist infestations really are, forgetting all the hype and rubbish you often read and see on the internet and TV. The authors have 
compiled a chronological account of experiences that are quite frankly jaw dropping and to the trained eye accurate and believable. The inclusion of some
