PROJECT BACKGROUND
Recycling reduces the load on our country's landfills by re-using the materials instead
of throwing them away. Recycling also reduces our need for mining and processing
production to extract materials to replace what doesn't get recycled. The process of
mining for materials and turning them into products and packaging, such as milk
bottles and soda cans, uses energy and causes heat and air pollution.
Eco Bin is a recyclable trash bin that uses recycle items such as egg tray and plastic
bottles. Egg carton or egg tray and plastic mineral water bottles which are commonly
thrown trashes by many people. Now we will be recycling the materials to build the
Eco Bins.
The Eco Bins are built to substitute plastic rubbish bins used in the classroom/school.
We believe via this product, whenever students throw their rubbish, it could
immediately be separated.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
We have a few issues that we would like to address with regards of throwing the
rubbish by students.
− Many trash bin made of plastics can found all around the school compound. This
does not serve the purpose for zero plastics goal for the benefit of the
environment
− As you know,in classrooms, students will throw their rubbish in the plastic
rubbish bin provided in the classroom as always
− All types of rubbish are thrown in the same rubbish bin without being separated,
thus this will make it difficult to recycle
− Students have no concern for recycling and no effort of instilling the habit in the
youger generation. Merely speech and talks about recycling and environmental
friendly will not impact much or bring changes in their behaviours . practice and
more practice only can bring a difference in one behaviour
− Students lacking awareness to recycle their rubbish, and lack of responsible to

minimize their carbon footprint

PROJECT OBJECTIVE
− To replace all the plastic trash bin in the classroom and other areas in the school
compound with the Eco bins
− Help to reduce the plastic pollution form the usage of plastic rubbish bin
− Create more awareness for recycling among the students
− Promote recycling habit in the students
− Practicing separate and throwing the rubbish in the younger age
− Drill the habit in the future generation and to continue when they get older

RECYCLE MATERIALS TO BE USED

The recycle item that are being used to built the environmental friendly ECO BIN are:-
1. EGG CARTON
Eggs are commonly purchased by everyone. The egg cartons are one of the widely
thrown rubbish that must be recycled. Also it is not poisonous and user friendly for kids
usage. It is light weight and easy to be moved.
2. PLASTIC BOTTLES
- Plastic bottles is another commonly thrown rubbish by the students. The
harmfulness of this waste material for the environment is well known. The plastic bottle
is water proof and more stable to be used as the base.

The Eco Bins are built to substitute plastic rubbish bins used in the classroom/school.
We believe via this product, whenever students throw their rubbish , it could
immediately be separated.
Easy And Less Cost
Apart from that, the usage of plastic wastepaper bin or trash bin in classroom can also
be reduced. As you know, every classroom has a plastic bin which are used by students
to throw their rubbish. With the Eco Bin in place, no more plastic trash bin need to be
purchased. The Eco Bin could be built by the students with a little help from parents and
teachers for their classroom so it is less costing and labour free to be produced.
User Friendly
With the Eco Bin in usage, students will learn to separate their rubbish immediately
when throwing them as they will be throwing plastics, aluminium tin, cans and papers in
separate bins. Also the pencil shavings will be thrown in the green bin built. The
awareness for recycling will be started from the lowest level itself. Creating awareness
will be more effective when students as low as primary 1 , they themselves are taught to
separate and throw their rubbish in the recycle bins. Every day when they see the Eco
Bin in their classroom they will practice recycling their rubbish.
Fast Approach To Younger Generations
In the long term, students will eventually learn about recycling and we able to cultivate
the habit of recycling because it’s being practiced daily. So when they get older, it is
already been a normal daily routine in their life to separate and throw their rubbish and
thus we wouldn’t be struggling to instill recycling habits to the future generation.

FUNCTIONS OF EACH PARTS

1. lid – is tied with a cable tie so easy to open when throwing rubbish and to make sure the
bin is always closed and neat
2. mouth opening – easy throwing of rubbish for the kids
3. sample rubbish – attached a few sample for visual understanding of what kind of
rubbish should be thrown in the particular bin
4. label – for students to read and identify the type of rubbish thrown in the bin
5. attractive features – attached attractive features such as eyes and hands so that it
looks friendly and attracts young kids to use them

THE FUTURE OF THE ECO BIN
All classrooms and areas around the school areas should be equipped with the
recycle bin instead of the usual plastic bins. No more plastic bin should be
purchased for throwing rubbish.
All schools should adopt this method and cut off buying of plastic bins for
throwing rubbish.
All Students should be educated since young age on the importance of recycling
and low carbon usage in the daily life.
The Eco Bin could be improvised in terms of the size where smaller bins for lower
standard studends and taller bins for upper standard students. Also the bin
could be fitted with rollers for easy movement.

SUMMARY
With the growing scarcity of fossil fuel availability, not to mention the pollution
caused by not recycling your recyclable trash, it is irresponsible not to recycle your
trash.
It is very important to educate the younger generations about the awareness

of recycling. The Eco Bin present in every classroom will be able to educate the
students on the importance of recycling their trash.
With the eco bin in your place, everyone will know that you are doing your part
to keep the environment clean. You will sleep easier at night with the knowledge that
you are minimizing your carbon footprint and cleaning up the earth.
