The Amur leopard

The Amur leopard is a beautiful wild cat. It lives in East Asia, in the mountains of Russia, China, and Korea
and eats sika deer and wild pigs. All leopards are yellow or orange with black spots, but the Amur leopard
is different from leopards in Africa. African leopards are big. They climb trees and have short hair because
they live in hot countries. The Amur is small and it has a very thick coat of long, soft hair. It’s a cat for a cold
country.
There are about 200 Amur leopards in zoos around the world, but there are only a few Amur leopards in
the wild. In fact, some scientists think there are only 50 or 60 in Russia, and only ten or twelve in China. It
isn’t easy to find an Amur leopard because they are scared of people. That’s why scientists leave cameras
in the mountains to find them. When a leopard walks near the camera, it takes a picture or makes a video.
The only information we have about the lives of these wild carnivores comes from these photographs and
videos.

Read the text again and choose T (True) or F (False).

1.Amur leopards live in Africa. T F

2.Amur leopards are big and climb trees. T F

3.Amur leopards don’t live in warm forests. T F

4.There are some Amur leopards in different zoos. T F

5.There are no wild Amur leopards in China right now. T F
