FENCING

P: Hi Evelyn.

E: Hi Paolo.

P: In this opportunity we’re going to talk about a not very common sport in Peru. What

is your opinion?

E: Well, I think one of the sports not very common in Peru is Fencing.

P: Oh right! only a few athletes practice fencing. Where is fencing played?

E: It is played on a track or pedana can be made of wood, rubber, metal, etc. It is

fourteen meters long and two meters wide.

P: Interesting! When did people start playing it?

E: It began to be played competitively and with established rules where an association

for this sport appeared in the Middle Ages, Germany in 1383.

P: Oh. 639 years ago! How many players are there?

E: It is a combat sport in which two people face each other wearing appropriate

clothing so as not to get hurt.

P: How do you get points in that sport?

E: Well, the goal of a fencing duel is to score 15 points in three three-minute sessions,

with a one-minute rest between each, and points are scored when the fencer touches

from the shoulders to the thighs.

P: Why do you think this sport is not very common in Peru?

E: I think it is not practiced because it is not very well known, in schools we are taught

volleyball, soccer and basketball, currently there are many artistic and new sports,

although we have athletes who practice fencing.

P: Thank you, Evelyn.

E: Not problem, bye Paolo.
