Abstract
The study examines stress management and private sector employee performance. The
population of this study cover the entire eighty (80) staffs of MR, BIGGS Jos, Plateau State,
as its target population. The sample size for this study will be Fifty (50) respondents from the
entire eighty (80) staffs of Jos.MR, BIGGS Jos. The study also used simple random sampling
technique to ensure that all the sample size is given equal chance in the study. The study used
both the primary and secondary source of data is utilized. Data are presented and analysed
using frequency tables and statistical simple percentage instrument. Out of the fifty (50)
copies of the questionnaire distributed to the respondent, forty-five (45) were filled and
returned for analysis. The study findings reveal that, working environment, lack of
motivation, relationship with superior, work over load and long working hours are all factors
that causes stress of workers, workers have absenteeism, low morale, poor work relations,
stress reduce their productivity, feel apathy and loss interest in work they are physiological
stressed at work place when they are stressed and overworked, that encouraging
organizational communication, promote job rotation & job enrichment can be adopt to
reduce organizational related stress on workers performance. The study recommends that, the
institution needs to elaborate and implement a robust and effective stress management
mechanism that will help the employees perform much better and in addition, there is need
for the management to introduce an Employee Assistance Program, a proactive measure
which identifies and intervene on problems before they affect the employee production level.
