Moment of Forces: Example 11
Moment of Forces: Example 11
Moment of forces
Moment of forces: is the ability of the force to produce turning or twisting about
an axis or point or line.
Mathematically: moment of forces = applied force * perpendicular distance
M=F*d
M= the moment of a force (N.m)
F= applied force (N)
d= perpendicular distance between the point
of action of the force and moment center (m)
d = 450 mm
M = F*d → M = 200 N * 0.450 m
M = − 90 N.m
cos〖60°〗= 200/L
0.5= 200/L
L=400
L/200 = (L-160)/?
400/200 = (400-160)/?
2/1=240/?
?=120 mm
M = F ∗ d = 500 ∗ 0.12 = −↻ 60 N. m
M = F ∗ d = 500 ∗ 0.2 = −↻ 100 N. m
Moment of forces
Example 13:
Determine the moment M about
point A produced by all forces
on shown beam.
Solution:
M =F∗d
= − 740 N. m
M = 740 N.m −↻
Moment of forces
Example 14:
Determine the moment M about
point A produced by all forces
and moments shown on beam.
Solution:
M =F∗d
= ( 15 ) + (− 6 × 3 ) + { − ( 8 × 1.5 ) × 0.75 }
= 15 − 18 − 9
= − 12 KN. m
M = 12 KN.m −↻
