In order to survive, humans, like most animals, need to eat nutritious food.

Furthermore, it is important to have a healthy dietary method since it can reduce the
possibility of having health diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. An example
of a healthy dietary method that is beneficial to a human’s health is the vegetarian diet.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine (2022), a vegetarian diet focuses on
plants for food. These include fruits, vegetables, dried beans and peas, grains, seeds and nuts.
A vegetarian diet that is well-planned is healthy, nutritious, and provides a lot of health
benefits.
A vegetarian diet promotes heart health since it is a plant-based lifestyle which leads
to lower intakes of saturated fat and cholesterol. Pioneering studies by Dean Ornish, MD,
Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., MD, and others have shown that a low-fat, plant-based diet, combined
with regular exercise and a healthy overall lifestyle, can prevent, delay, and even reverse
heart disease and other cardiovascular events. Plant-based diets benefit heart health because
they contain no dietary cholesterol, very little saturated fat, and abundant fiber.
Vegetarians are less likely to develop certain health problems, such as type 2 diabetes,
hypertension, certain types of cancer, and obesity. One reason for this may be a higher intake
of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts, and a lower intake of unhealthful fats.
According to a study of data for nearly 70,000 people by Fraser et al. (2014), there are
significant evidence that the incidence of cancer overall was lower among vegetarians than
non-vegetarians.
Having a vegetarian diet will benefit people whose goal is lose weight. According to
Dr. Streit (2019), eating a variety of non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and
seeds may help you lose weight on a vegetarian diet. Vegetarian diets can promote weight
loss because they focus on nutrient-dense, low-calorie foods like fruits, vegetables, whole
grains, nuts, seeds and soy. Switching to a vegetarian diet may help a person lose weight, at
least in the short-term, according to a meta-analysis by Huang et al. (2016).
Contrarily, the adoption of a vegetarian diet may cause a reduced intake of certain
nutrients. In fact, one survey suggests around 28% of vegans and 13% of vegetarians show
one or more nutrient deficiencies. This is because many plant-based diets don't contain high
levels of certain nutrients, such as vitamin B12, omega-3 fatty acids, iodine, calcium,
selenium, iron and zinc. However, deficiencies can be readily avoided by appropriate
planning and by taking vitamins. There are some good plant-based sources of iron and
protein, those that have a vegetarian diet only need to properly plan what they’re going to
eat in order to avoid nutritional deficiencies, According to Shubrook (2018), it’s now easier
for vegans to reduce the risk of nutritional deficiencies because the market is now more
accommodating and versatile. There are many examples of fortified foods, dietary
supplements, and ready prepared vegan foods available to buy.
In conclusion, a vegetarian diet that is well-planned is healthy, nutritious, and
provides a lot of health benefits. A vegetarian diet promotes heart health since it is a plant-
based lifestyle which leads to lower intakes of saturated fat and cholesterol. Vegetarians are
less likely to develop certain health problems, such as disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension,
certain types of cancer, and obesity. The adoption of a vegetarian diet may cause a reduced
intake of certain nutrients; however, deficiencies can be readily avoided by appropriate
planning and by taking vitamins. Having a vegetarian diet is undoubtedly beneficial for a
human’s health.
