GRAMMAR
The Focus of this Lesson is Saying, "long time no see," in Persian.
!آرش؟ ﺧﯿﻠﯽ وﻗﺘﻪ ﻧﺪﯾﺪﻣﺖ
"Long time no see!"
In Iran, when two old friends see each other after a long time, in order to express the phrase, "Long
time, no see," they say, "I haven't seen you in a long time," which is ( ﺧﯿﻠﯽ وﻗﺘﻪ ﻧﺪﯾﺪﻣﺖkheyli vaqt-e
nadidamet.) in Persian. kheyli vaqt means "long time," and nadidamet means "haven't seen you."
In addition to this, girls may also use more emotional expressions like ( دﻟﻢ ﺑﺮات ﺗﻨﮓ ﺷﺪهdelam baraat
tang shode.), which means, "I have missed you." Boys may use more humor, like saying, for example,
( ﮐﺠﺎﯾﯽ؟ ﮐﻢ ﭘﯿﺪاﯾﯽkojaa-yi? kampeydaa-yi.) or literally, "Where are you? You're not found!" But in general,
they all mean the same thing.

CULTURAL INSIGHT
Catching Up with Old Friends
che khabar? ("What's new?") is a phrase used a lot among friends. It doesn't matter if they haven't meet
in a long time or they met just yesterday, they still say this as a habit.
Sometimes together with che khabar? another phrase is also said, which is az in tarafhaa?! It means,
"What does bring you this way?" and is said half jokingly and half seriously. In answer to che khabar?, if
there's nothing especially new to say, the phrase Salamati, meaning "health and wellbeing," is simply
used. It means, "Nothing is new except our well being" or "I'm fine, but nothing (else) is new!"
