Trend Analysis of Rainfall using Mann-Kendall Method and Sen’s Slope Estimator in

Preah Sihanouk Province (Cambodia)

Abstract
The study has been carried out to research and assess the significance of the potential trend of
rainfall at Preah Sihanouk where is located in Cambodia. This study focus on detecting trends in
annual, seasonal and monthly rainfall in Preah Sihanouk Province. For this study, the widely
used modified Mann-Kendall test run at a 5% significance level on the time series data for each
of the years for the period, from 1992 to 2021. MAKESENS performs two types of statistical
analyses. First, the Mann-Kendall test is used to analyze time data for consistently increasing or
decreasing trends (monotonic trends). Second, the Sen’s Slope method was used for predicting
the magnitude of hydro-meteorological the series data. The test results showed decreasing
rainfall trend in Preah Sihanouk for annual (Z=-0.68), wet season (Z= -0.89), and dry season
(Z= -0.43) time series.
