Solar  Technician  Training  in  Kenya    (5/6  Weeks)  Intensive

Context:     5  Weeks  intensive  solar  PV  training  at  Sarah  Obama  Solar  Learning  Centre    
     

Frame  
Objectives   • To  conduct  a  5  weeks  intensive  solar  PV  training  for  campaigner,  mobiliser,  solar  
  business  promoters  etc.,  organized  and  executed  at  Sarah  Obama  solar  learning.  
  • Train  on  “solar  health  solutions”,  i.e.  solar  chill  for  vaccines  and  lighting  up  health  
  centers  and  train  hospital  staff  in  maintenance  and  service,  and  solar  drinking  water  
• To  introduce  trainees  basic  business  course  i.e.  Bookkeeping,  Marketing,  
Advertisement  etc  
• Optionally  train  on  solar  water  pump  for  irrigation  
• The  course  is  tailored  for  entry-­‐level  training  and  participants  with  little  knowledge  
and  would  like  to  advance  their  skills  on  PV  installation,  namely  off-­‐grid  and  business  
courses  will  be  offered,  and  optional  a  1-­‐week  wood  efficient  stove  building  course.  
Expected  Results   • Participants  achieve  basic  knowledge,  comprehension  and  application  of  key  terms  
and  concepts  of  photovoltaic  systems  operations.      
• Capable  of  installing  simple  solar  PV  systems  and  tackling  trouble  shootings.  
• Acquire  business  skills  for  social  entrepreneurship  that  can  help  them  start  their  own  
mini  solar  enterprises.

3.  Wood  Efficient  Stoves   Course  outline   1  
(Rocket  stoves)   • Energy  needs  in  developing  countries  (The  Kenyan  case)  
• Basic  theory  and  efficiency  of  wood  efficient  stoves  
• Building  wood  efficient  stoves  (Hands-­‐on)  
 

NB:  The  training  is  offered  to  young  Kenyans  with  a  special  offer  for  Greenpeace  staff  and  key  volunteers.
