SCHOOL COUNSELING

Goals: counselors should ensure the engagement of each student in proactive and learning activities
intended to promote knowledge and skills development in personal, social, academic and career
domains. Direct- working with students- individual meetings, lessons, group activities. Indirect-
working for students-coordination-collaboration-consultation.

College Counseling Highlights


-College week before deadlines (an entire week with activities to promote/ finish application
processes).
- Predicted grades in advance to share with the coordinator.
- Unitfrog; guidance program that can be adapted for each institution.
-Fire-fire Friday: teachers give short and informal presentations to students to spark interest and gain
insights about other countries and cultures
- Highlight IB applications to US colleges - share with universities more information about the IB
diploma (EE, TOK, CAS creating a cover letter).
- Let students know that they can potentially use some of their assessments as some of the work that
universities require as part of the application process (not amended by teachers’ comments). This work
needs to be authorized by authorized by the school (coordinator) before external usage.
-Emphasize how IB DP has displaced in many ways SAT.
-Make clear and evident how CAS could be a great source of inspiration for students and these
experiences can be used as prove of students’ commitment and implication.
-Encourage students to choose appropriately the courses that could potentially help them to advance
their career (IB scholarship specifics and credits recognition at universities).
-Check the recognition statement platform (available at the end of March, 2023)
-University recognition statement platform (available at the end of June 2023)
- Share with Students UCAS tariffs points.
