Barrington Street Shooting Update:

As the investigation into the shooting death of Brendon Burns continues, redacted portions of Body Worn Camera (BWC)
footage of responding Officers is now posted online. At times, the BWC footage is redacted in order to protect the
identities of those that are assigned to undercover investigations. Furthermore, it should be noted that RPD had two
members involved in the use of deadly physical force against Burns on Barrington Street. One of those members is
assigned to an undercover position; per policy, he was not wearing a BWC. The second RPD member’s camera fell off and
therefore did not record the incident. The BWC footage that has been released is from additional Officers that responded
to the scene.

The Rochester Police Department members involved are:

Sergeant Kevin Leckinger, a member of the Rochester Police Department since 2007.

Officer William Baker, a member of the Rochester Police Department since 2007.

Both members have been assigned to administrative functions while the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the
Professional Standards Section continue their investigations.

The loss of any life is tragic and we are committed to being as transparent as possible. This video release is the next step
of transparency to show our community the actions of our Officers during this incident. Chief Smith would like to re-
iterate his continued support for the Officers and Deputies involved and commend them on the considerable restraint and
professionalism shown during these heartbreaking events.
