Philippines
Overview
(Provide a SHORT overview of your reflection paper)

This paper aims to acquaint not just the students but also for
those people who will be reading this, especially Filipino
citizens. It will answer the question, “Why do we need
English to be learned of if we are a Filipino citizen?”. English
concepts may cover a lot of topics but it will only lead to one
certain conclusion, and that is to make people acquainted
with its significance and how does it contribute to the
development of personal perspectives which can result to a
better communication. This will also help every Filipino to be
familiar with English and how will it influence every
individual’s life.

REFLECTION PAPER 2

Teaching English in the Philippines is hard because many students are too laze to
think and learn about it. Their reasons may seem unreasonable but somehow, it makes point
and some people agrees to it. First reason is that, English is not the natural language of Filipinos
so why bother studying about it. Second is that, it is hard to understand and is hard to
comprehend. But, we must know that English is the Universal Language which means that we
can use it in every aspect and in every country that we might visit in the future. Being an
aspiring teacher, my role is to have a large participation in teaching this language to my
students. It is also my obligation to make them understand that English language is the way to
show that every person can go with the flow to the communication of foreign people. I also
want them to know that learning this language will only be difficult if they don’t participate in
the classes as well as helping themselves learn about it. After all, I can’t do it alone if they don’t
cooperate with me.

We all know that language is the basis of communication. It is essential in

performing interpersonal relationships and is the key to reflect thoughts and action. English
language has its own guiding principles which can be used to anchor language acquisition,
learning, teaching and assessing one’s principle. It is a way to develop student’s understanding
of their literary heritage. It also heightens the student’s ability to interpret and communicate
with the society. Sometimes, Filipinos often mistook English as ‘just’ a subject that are being
studied in school. I can’t blame them because we have our own perspectives and opinion. But,
in reality, English may be the way for every individual to have a better future because this
language shows a lot of opportunities ahead of you. Learning English language covers all
possible topic concerning the english language. Grammar, correct punctuations, reading and
writing sentences are all being tackled in this learning. As the world keeps on changing, many
things were added to every individual’s vocabulary without them knowing the legitimate reason
behind it. So, as an aspiring teacher, I wanted them to know that even though they are not
familiar with those terms or concepts, I am here to guide and teach them for them to be able to
gain the knowledge that every student has the right to have.

English language is a must to be learned subject. With the helps of learning this
subject, one can take part of the group of people who understands English concept. As an
aspiring teacher, I must consider the six principles of language learning process which will
enable me to develop my skills in this language. By developing these skills, it will be enough to
make my students learn a lot from me. Using language is not just about using this to your own
good and to an unrighful manner. Effective use of language is what I wanted for my students to
learn. By this, every student will be able to understand the key concept of this language. We all
know that language conveys a lot of meaning. When writing poems, songs, essays and other
composition, by pouring your emotions and heart into it, the readers will be emphasized with
your feelings. Language is the major instrument in communication. It takes the biggest part in
making people understand and able to converse with each other. Being an aspiring teacher that
I always wanted to be, it is my obligation to teach them the different purposes of this language
for them to make meaning through this language. As the end of my teaching, assessing my
students is what I must do to know if they have learned the lessons that I have taught them and
also to monitor every students’ performance and development.

CONCLUDING STATEMENT:
My reflection paper concludes that teaching English may be a hard
task but when you see your students that seems to be enjoying and
learning a lot about this language is a satisfying and fulfilling feeling.
Teaching this language requires a lot of attention and understanding
especially to those Filipinos whose opinions about it are mostly
negative and cannot be changed, according to them. As an aspiring
teacher, we need to make them understand little by little that we are
just going to learn it and make use of it as our second language.
After all, learning a new language doesn’t mean neglecting the
natural and original one. Therefore, I am ready to face new
challenges to make sure that my fellow Filipinos will gain new ideas
and learnings about this language.
