1.1 Starting and Shutting Down the System

• The (standby indicator lamp) will illuminate almost immediately if restarting 1

the system directly after shutting it down; It may take as long as 1 minute to
illuminate if restarting after the system has not been performed over a long period
of time.
1
• If the key switch is turned ON with buttons or levers left ON, code [A4] to
[A11] appears on the mAs display.
Release the switch or lever.

• If the key switch is turned ON with the hand switch still depressed, code [F64]
1
or [F65] appears on the mAs display.
Release the hand switch.

• Please note that the battery voltage rises temporarily immediately after the system 1
is turned ON. As a result, the battery indicator will indicate more than the actual
remaining charge. After the system is used for a while, the battery display will

1
return to its actual remaining charge.

• If the key switch is turned ON with the emergency stop button still depressed,
code [F6d] appears on the mAs display.
If the emergency stop button is reset after the key switch is turned ON with
the emergency stop button in the pressed state, code [d20] or [d21] will appear
and the system will lock tight. In this case, restart the system while the emergency
1
stop button is in the reset state.

1.3 Moving the System

1.3 Moving the System 1

This section describes the posture for moving the system, the travel modes and how to stop moving.
In order to use safely, move the system with adequate understanding of this section.
1
1.3.1 Posture for Moving the System
1

1
To move the system, firmly grip the grip bar with both hands and then
move the system.
Do NOT operate the grip bar using only one hand, or underhanded.
Doing so can result in not only operation errors and system damage, but may
1
also cause serious accident leading to injury or death.

1
• When driving the system where people are present, near equipment,
or close to a wall, drive slowly to be able to stop immediately and
maintain safety in the surroundings.
1
• Do NOT touch the brake release bar unless intending to move the
system.
Doing so will release the brake, allowing the system to move 1
unexpectedly.

• Immediately charge the battery if the last bar on the battery indicator
goes out. 1
• If the system moves abnormally, immediately stop using the system
and contact your Shimadzu service representative.

• Do NOT move the system on a wet floor. 1

M503-E070 MobileDaRt Evolution Reference Guide 1-11
1 Basic Operation

• The operator may experience static electric shock when moving the
system if their body has become statically charged, depending on
conditions such as humidity and type of clothing.

• When the [PAS] or [Acc] value for power-assist settings has been
changed, not only forward but also backward movement will be influenced.
To maintain the same backward movement, adjust the [bAc] value
accordingly.

1 Basic Operation

1.3.2 FPD Storage

Store the FPD properly and lock the FPD before moving the system.

^ Reference "1.8 FPD Storage" P.1-49

1.3.3 Travel Mode and Inch-Mover Buttons

• When moving the system, make sure that there are no obstacles
ahead.
Hitting an IV stand or running over cables from other equipment could be
very dangerous to patients. The obstacle detector may not be able to
detect light weight obstacles in front of it, such as IV stands or cables from
other equipment.

• Do NOT move the system over any steps or bumps greater than 2 cm,
or slopes steeper than 7 degrees. Always stop the system on a level
surface and avoid sloped surfaces.
Failure to do so may cause the system to roll down the slope or tip over.

• Do NOT operate this system outdoors.

This system is designed for indoor use only. Using this system outdoors
may lead to system failure.

The system can be moved using the normal travel mode, low-speed travel mode, or inch-mover
buttons.
By squeezing the brake release bar of the grip bar and pushing on the bar, the system moves in the
direction it is pushed. In addition, the system's power-assist technology allows changing the travel
speed according to how much force is applied.

 Normal Travel Mode

The system is in the normal travel mode when the arm is locked.
^ Reference "1.4.1 Locking and Releasing the Arm" P.1-18

Maximum travel speed is approx. 5 km/h (Maximum instantaneous travel speed: 6 km/h, may vary
depending on condition).

* Travel characteristics can be changed.

See "2.1 User Settings" P.2-2.

1-14 MobileDaRt Evolution Reference Guide M503-E070

1.3 Moving the System

 Low-Speed Travel Mode

If the arm is not locked, the system will automatically select the low-speed travel mode.
1
^ Reference "1.4.1 Locking and Releasing the Arm" P.1-18

The traveling speed of the system will be limited to about half the normal speed and the degree of
power-assist is limited to about half of its normal level. 1

1
• Do NOT move the system over bumps or other floor-level changes in
low-speed travel mode.
Since the arm is not locked, the arm may move and cause injuries or 1
damage to the system, or cause the system to tip over.

• Do NOT move the system over slopes steeper than 5 degrees.

1
 Inch-Mover Buttons
Holding down the inch-mover buttons with the arm unlocked allows the movement of the system
forward or backward more slowly than in the low-speed travel mode. Maximum movement speed is
approx. 5 cm/s. 1
The inch-mover buttons can be operated continuously for approx. 10 seconds. To continue using the
buttons more than 10 seconds, press them again.
Motor power is lower than in the low-speed travel mode. If the system cannot be moved due to thick-
piled carpet, or other resistance, use the grip bar.
1
The system will not move if both inch-mover buttons are pressed at the same time.

1

Obstruction Detector

 Obstruction Detector Cancel Function

If the obstruction detector is damaged, the obstruction detection function may remain ON (activated).
In this case, the obstruction detector cancel function can be used to temporarily cancel the
obstruction detector function, allowing the system to be moved.

• The obstruction detector cancel function is only a temporary

measure. If the obstruction detector does not function normally,
contact your Shimadzu service representative.

• While the obstruction detector cancel function is enabled, the

detector will not emit any sound, even if activated. Because there is
no auditory warning, be sure to pay careful attention to the area in
the periphery of the system while moving.

• After moving to a safe location, disable the obstruction detector

cancel function.

1 Turn the key switch to OFF .

2 Turn the key switch ON while pressing the (collimator lamp

1.4 Arm Operation

1.4.1 Locking and Releasing the Arm

The arm is in the locked position when the arm and the main unit are coupled at the arm joint section.
During radiography, the arm lock is released to allow the movement of the X-ray tube unit to the
imaging position.

Do NOT release the arm lock if the system is on a slope greater than 5
degrees.
The system may tip over if the arm is rotated, extended/contracted, or moved
up or down on a slope greater than 5 degrees.

 Releasing the Arm Lock

Releasing the arm lock enables rotation, extension/contraction, and up/down movements of the arm.
In addition, radiography parameters are displayed on the X-ray control panel and radiography is
enabled. In this state, the system will be in the low-speed travel mode where maximum travel speed
is limited to about half of the normal travel mode.
The lock can be released in one of the following three ways:

1.5 Setting the Radiography Parameters

1.5.1 Setting the Radiography Parameters

Radiography parameters on this system are set using two controls − X-ray tube voltage and current-
time product. Based on the radiography tube current-time product (mAs) setting, the system
automatically determines the maximum X-ray tube current (mA) and the shortest exposure time(s)
available within the rated limits of the system and X-ray tube unit. Radiography parameters can be
changed using the methods described below.
The radiography parameter settings permitted on the system is constrained by X-ray tube voltage
(kV), current-time product (mAs), and radiography mode.

1.5.2 Radiography Parameters

The relation between radiography parameters and radiography time are as follows.

• Some radiography parameters are not available for DR radiography.

1 Basic Operation

• The battery indicator may remain in the state for checking whether or not charging
is necessary (repetition of the 1st bar lighting -> 2nd bar lighting -> 3rd bar lighting
-> 4th bar lighting -> 5th bar lighting -> 1st bar lighting) for up to
approx. 10 minutes after charging starts because it takes a while for the battery
voltage to stabilize.

• Immediately after charging, the battery indicator may indicate a level that is higher
than the actual battery charge because the battery voltage rises temporarily after
charging.
After the system is used for a short period, the battery display will display the
actual remaining charge.
If charging is interrupted, the battery indicator will initially be lit up completely.
After a short period, the number of lights may decrease suddenly, but this does
not indicate a malfunction.
